    This thread is always solid, but the may 2011 edition is extremely fantastic -- and this is only four days in?
    @Neil Ford: Love your lines and your art, as always; strong-looking character and excellent mood.
    @Valente: The horses piece is genius
    @Mojoking bee: I'm constantly astounded by the quality of your work and the rhythm at which your create your art.
    @Hey Apathy!: I didn't get the chance to comment on some of your pieces from last month -- I thought your entry for the station indent was awesome, as was your addiction monster and your hockey players.

    I did this at Denver ComicFest in April. I'm calling her "Frankenhipster" for now, and I have no idea if I'll ever do anything with the character, but I like the picture so...

    @ miranda holy shit! holy shit! the white space around this image really exemplifies the style! I love the mystery of your more busy pieces that fill the whole page but the definition on this one is crazy! thanks for the comments I'm in a really dark place right now and I feel my work has gotten rotten and really negative since the station id , I'm not going to draw any more pictures for a while until I can find a reason to be fun again, also one more holy shit! for your latest drawing it's incredible.

    @JP Stargazer, Wow! love that comic pages! remind me to Solano López : )

    @HEY, hahaha! that´s a funny one!

    @Miranda, Holly cow!!!

    @imaginary, thanks man : ) ... by the way, can´t see your last pic : (

    @VertigoJones - I like it, fun sketch, kinda pagan.
    @Petie - That one wasn't loading for me yesterday afternoon, really nice though, so light, so dark. :)
    @lazzyfair - New it was Castle right away, nice pic. It kind of reminds me of Hyde from League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, in that brimming-with-rage way.
    @no cuddle time - Wow. Incredible, bleak and beautiful.
    @imaginarypeople - Great esoteric kitschiness! One of my favourite "vibes" in artwork.
    @HEY APATHY - That is strong Art. Your dark stuff is good, powerful,(REALLY liked your Aquaman too). Try not to let it get you down. Anything can be overcome, you're better off to be producing if you can.
    @Miranda - That is delightful! Your imagination is a wonderful and creepy place. Did it take you long? I have to know...
    @ScottS - I can see why you like her, very cute indeed. Frankenhipster is a great name, takes me imagination to funny places. :)

    I did this yesterday evening after listening to CSNY's 'Ohio'. Was going for a kind of Lino/Graphic look.

    May the 4th be with you

    Then I started this one because the 3 subjects have great distinctive heads on them. It's a work in progress, still deciding on the narrative. Want to get "Our Universe's Walter Bishop" in there too.

    Work in progress

    @mojokingbee - Thank you... I'm a bit out of my element when it comes to backgrounds/scenery/landscapes, so I appreciate the compliment. BTW, I rather like the kangaroo character, it reminds me of some of Jamie Hewlett's Tank Girl work.

    @JP Stargazer - Thanks... I'm really enjoying the lines and textures of your inks, they remind me of some older comic book inking styles that we don't see as much of these days.

    @Lordofthejungle - Right back atcha, I'm rather enthralled with your Spiderman 1899 piece!

    @no cuddle time - CREEPY dark, and raw... very nice.

    @imaginary people - I like it. Nice, clean ink lines.

    @Miranda - I could happily get lost in that piece, looking at it. Then again, I like that about your work in general, so it should be no surprise that I like this piece as well.

    @Valente - Wow. That Disco Fish flyer has some serious punch to it. That will certainly get the attention of those who see it, I'm sure.

    Decided to start doing daily(ish) batches of thumbnail speedpaintings for practice purposes. Here's the initial batch, from yesterday:

    (Clicking through goes to the Flickr page for it, but the images aren't any larger this time around. Originals were twice the size, but for whatever reason, Flickr scaled them down-- I'll try splitting the batch in half, next time.)

    Strictly Photoshop, using a mix of basic brushes, and custom brushes that I made. 5-20 minutes a piece, depending on which one it is. Order of completion is left-to-right, top-to-bottom. There are much shorter techniques for generating quick, random thumbnails, but I think it's important to to be able to do them from scratch, as well. After all, without some basic art skills to draw upon, who would we be, as artists?

    As we all know, thumbnails are intended to be rough, as are often speedpaintings, and these are no exception. These are intended as foundations to eventually build larger, finished pieces from.

    @Lordofthejungle & @Amalgamated Biscuit:
    All right, thanks for the comments :)

    Meanwhile, I made a little ad/preview thingie for my upcoming comic...

    coilstar illustrated #2

    EDIT (because it took me someting like an hour to post this cause I totally forgot to hit send, haha):
    @Seantaclaus: A postapocalyptic industrial complex in state of ruin is what I see in these... and I love that !

    Everyone here is in top form this month - and we're not even a week in! Everything's got so much energy and guts to it. Damn fine work, all of you!

    I did this last night, unable to sleep. Unsure if it wants to be part of something, or just as-is.

    Butts are tough to get to look right, especially straight from the back.

    @Lordofthejungle Ha, glad you picked up on the expression. I didn't want it to read simply as "Angry, stoic Punisher" so I tried to make it a bit subtler.
  8.  (9826.59)
    @miranda: SICK!
    @Lordofthejungle: More Steampunk Spidey! Really liked that. And thanks for the positive comments.
    @Alan: Beautiful. Love the lettering too.
