Whether it turns out to be Osama's head on a platter, or Obama telling Trump to chill the fuck out... let's watch this develop, what do you say, Whitechapel?

Osama Bin Laden is officially dead, killed by CIA operation outside Islamabad, the US has his body.

    !

I would just like the president's statement to start now.

Less important but more hilarious: the news coverage broke into the new episode of Celebrity Apprentice. Sorry Donald!

On the 8th anniversary of "Mission Accomplished," no less.

This timing is VERY SUSPICIOUS. Clearly Obama is trying to distract america from looking at his academic record more closely!

[Edit]I kind of want the sum total of his statement to be 'we got the bitch.' And then immediately leaves.

I've had one friend on facebook comment on the negative aspects of the "war on terror," and already has gotten slammed again and again by people for daring to speak against 9/11 victims. Which is both illogical and predictable, but we're talking a passage of time of ten minutes, people.

Holy crap this statement is never happening...

I imagine right now Osama is confused as to where all the virgins on...

I'd like to think the delay in a statement from President Obama is because of THE CIGARETTE OF VICTORY!!!

Al Jazeera's Livestream is doing a good job of reporting it for now (though the correspondent's interviewee did just joke that he's just "killing time until Obama's speech starts).

    Good riddance.

I hope this gets us out of Afghanistan quicker.

I doubt it. Bin Laden hasn't been in Afghanistan for years, I'm certain. The current Afghanistan war has as much to do with 9/11 as Patton's campaign in Africa had to do with Pearl Harbor.

    Ditto to StefanJ's comments.

    (Obama is speaking...)

Meanwhile, Bin Laden's primarily been in Pakistan in all likelihood, skirting the border with Afghanistan. And what this definitely does is remove a HUGE chunk of the threadbare reasons for approval of our continued presence in Afghanistan. Getting Osama is going to be seen as some sort of victory condition for many people eager to see our military return home. I won't be surprised if that effects our withdrawal timeline or not, just saying.

Well. That could have gone worse.

So... a firefight, eh? Not a drone strike? That's interesting in and of itself. Guess they wanted to make abso-fucking-lutely sure they'd gotten him.

D'oh! Tuned back in just in time to catch the equivalent of "Thank you and I'm going to bed". I'll catch the official announcement once it's on the Youtubes, I guess, although I'm sure if I tune in to any news channel at all I can catch endless blather about the speech rather than the actual speech itself. That's got to be just as good, right?
