Oh, I do apologise for starting this thread for a second month in a row, but... I really just must.

Friday I trekked to NJ to go to the Chiller convention all weekend where I helped a friend film, took photographs, was told I should do stand up by an actor from The Warriors, got a Killer Klowns poster signed by the blonde lead, was asked by Pete Timony why I didn't return to writing (which was a really fabulous compliment), witnessed a woman show Loni Anderson her surgery scars in the Ladies bathroom, hung out with Tony Clifton (who I saw perform earlier that evening), wandered the hallways of the hotel with half a wedding cake belonging to "That Mother Chick" of Danzig fame, woke up to find a KIT replica parked next to us, discussed lederhosen with the original Augustus Gloop, discussed Two Girls One Cup with the Japanese fellow from Human Centipede, and interviewed Joyce Hyser. She was my first girl crush, and she and Annie Lennox had severe influences on my child brain. I was a giddy nervous shaking mess, AND SHE HUGGED ME. We might have talked about her breasts.

There was more awesome, but I'm already rambling too much. WHEEEEEE!!!!

    C'mon people, what's YOUR awesome?!?

(( ENTRY EDITED DOWN for BREVITY ))

((edited AGAIN to mention that I was also cured of that pesky chastity that lasted over a year))

I was lucky enough to be invited to a launch party for the new China Miéville book covers last month. Whilst there I snagged an advance copy of Embassytown, due out May 6th (in the UK). China is one of my favourite writers, so it was like Christmas had come early, I kid you not. He also read an excerpt of the new book, which was just superb.

I've gushed about the book here HERE.

Seeing him at Foyles on Thursday night.

Found, at thrift stores, two DVDs I've been looking for.

Then found a really nice jacket dumpster diving. (Already washed and drying in the sunlight.)
    jacket
Then found a $5 bill while walking the dog.

More shop goodness. Restorer has dug out the back garden and I have an order pending with Diamond. Also there are more people than I thought that would benefit from my service.

Also I was in Bristol at the weekend, good to get out of town for a few days.

Amazing weekend working my butt off doing stuff I love. Four sold out shows Friday-Monday at my theatre with some pretty satisfying reviews coming from our audience. We're extending for at least one week which is actually a negative thing for my schedule but excellent for our company. Two voice classes, one for commercials where I had a blast working on reading with someone else (so much of a blast I'm not sure I actually learned much, but have quite a bit to mull going forward), and the second on anime archetypes where I felt ever more solid about my basic strengths. Not perfect, but workable.

In between I got to see my friend, drink a terrific riesling on a hot day and pet a sweet dog. And at the end there was a mocha. Now I'm home again, and as much I don't like living here, I like being with my stuff. I've missed my stuff. It's my stuff.

Spent last six months in dead end job, almost went crazy, hot redhead friend dumped boyfriend and snatches up me and a third party for impromptu Florida trip because we were all sick of being miserable, crashed hippie friend's pad for a week, did ridiculous amount of drugs ( and subsequently decided that quitting for good would be a great decision ), friends left a day early due to bad acid trip, and summarily I am now a Florida resident ( at least for the moment ) and am loving the weather and environs much more than crabby, doom and gloom Maryland. Live bands doing shows every night, the beach within a short bike ride's distance, and beautiful tattooed women who set themselves on fire.

Now I just have to find a new job, but I really haven't been this happy in a very, very long time.

The site vists for my website have increased recently by around 400%.

Which was confusing as hell, as it came out of nowhere. It turns out that Pringles are currently doing a campaign whereby you collect vouchers and recieve a Pringle-tube speaker. Something which I had the bright idea to invent last October. So i'm getting a lot of traffic from people who are googling pringle tube speaker only to find my site at the top of the list and not the pringles one!

i'm wondering if it's just a lucky coincidence or if Proctor and Gamble stole my idea and pulled it off better...

Just weighed & measured myself again. I am down to 171 pounds now and have lost an extra inch from my waist and an extra half inch from my hips. So far overall progress is down 19 pounds since the summer, down 3" on waist, and down 2.5" on hips :) My spinning classes are also feeling much easier for me even though they just got more challenging, so definitely have gotten more fit, too.

    Go me!

Horses are going really well in preparation for show season, but mostly my own prospect. My filly is jumping around courses that horses 2 years her senior would normally be doing, and she is finally deciding not to buck me off! Also, I think I have sold a client's horse, which means... COMMISSION! Whoo!

On a non-horsey note, the house that my boyfriend and I have been working on is FINALLY ready for painting, and we got a great deal ($1000 worth of paint for $300). His mother's boyfriend is a professional painter, and not only got us this great deal, but is coming down to work on our house for a weekend! Life is awesome. Countdown is T-minus 3 weeks to move-in!

    *grin*

Two-fold good news - my son, employed full-time in his field while finishing his degree, has graduated (yea!) Better yet, now that he's no longer in school he's back to looking for a band with the right opening, and thinks he's found one. It's prog/punk band that currently consists of a drummer, bassist, sax player, and two female lead vocalists. He auditions/jams with them tomorrow night. A job, a degree, and doing the thing he really loves on the side - what's not to like about that?

Well, the day portion of today actually kind of sucked. After two months of not hearing from them, the Steampunks from back in Feb. who hired me for event photography finally reached me and asked for the photos despite there no longer being a guarantee of pay. I told them no, gave them some advice for when they leave school and enter the real world, and left it at that. They responded, apologized and made a pretty petty attempt at blaming me for all of it, but I just ignored it. Other things happened, but...eh. Not worth getting in to at the moment.

But when I got HOME, oh man. I had all this stress and decided to go run it out. Through some alternations between running and briskly walking, I managed to cover 1.5 miles, which is pretty awesome for my second time running this year.

Afterwards those endorphins were just kicking in and I was feeling so wonderful. The shower made it better and the small curry I had for dinner just topped it off. By 8.30pm I had made myself a cup of decaf tea and was watching some stuff on the computer. It's great to feel so content and relaxed.

Also, I finally got word, I HAVE OFFICIALLY PAID OFF MY COMPUTER! I'm thrilled about that.

Additionally, tomorrow my coworker brings me Season 1 of Deadwood. Looking forward to finally watching that show.

    YAY for everyone being FABULOUS!

    As for myself...

I... I've been emailed by Tony Clifton... who enjoyed meeting me, and would like to be sent some of the photographs I'd shown him of his performance. He asked for a return address so he could send me "and the gang" some "cool stuff".

    *blink* *blink*

Seriously? I hand scrawled my email address on the back of someone else's business card at the end of the night! Wow. Gosh.

    I DANCE!

(sorry I keep posting things. i'm just not used to good things happening to me, and it's wierd, and i seem to be on a roll)

Didn't have to wear shoes today. There is chocolate in the house. Researching butoh for a tiny essay due in two weeks. (How can one page, double spaced, count as a college essay? At first I thought the one page was for the topic introduction and the actual essay would have to be much longer. How can I really cover any subject in just one page??) What I've learned of butoh has hit me like a firehose of emotions and artist possibilities. I let the world tell me that I'm an intellect* and I forget that "artist" applies pretty well too. Then new expressions come and I don't understand why I'm so taken by them, moved by their beauty and truth and feeling sincerely that nothing will be quite the same again.

A friend shared a great little Antonio Machado poem with the repeated line "caminante, no hay camino, se hace camino al andar." Roughly translates to "wayfarer, there is no way, the way is made by walking."

In the this is all convoluted and easily not as good as all that. But it's been a good day to be alive. How 'bout that?

*I like considering myself intellectual, I know how to be analytical and distant...usually. I don't know how to handle artistry within myself but trying not to be an artist is like trying not to be a warm blooded creature, it's just not going to fly.

    Sweet stencils!

Yesterday a friend gave me a free ticket to see Rush, and even though I had to bail out after hour 2 due to prog rock fatigue (and during Peart's solo, too, which means I have to hand my union card back) the boys were very good. Childhood heros, sometimes they don't disappoint.

Also cooked for the first time in ages. Honey and mustard glazed pork ribs on a bed of root veggies, red onion and apple, braised in beer. (I blame Robin, obviously.) It turned out to be just as glorious as it sounds. I left it to rest overnight, and to take some of the liquids back in, and will warm it up tonight with some hasselback taters.

ETA: Nearly forgot! The weather is now bearable enough to work outside, so I managed to start working on building that Jazzmaster. Yesterday I did the rough shaping for the body contours, and managed to get the 1/2" radius on the body roundover down perfectly in a couple of places by freehand. Yay! I'm aiming at having a playable instrument in my hands sometime this summer.

Big news for me: I'd applied for early retirement in April, but with the gubbamint budget fluxation and vexation, it got sat upon in bureaucratic hell until today when I learned that it had been approved! Holy SHIT!

I will be a free man on or about 3 June 2011 ...

    Gonna be a busy month.

Time to sharpen my house-hubby skills and start getting ready to live the free-wheeling life of a freelancer.

There will be festivities, and there will be mischief.

    That is all.

    @alastair: WANT.

Today my coworker loaned me the entire series of Deadwood. I'm really excited.

And the owner of the coffee shop/roastery I frequent has turned out to be a beer enthusiast who has never been to the Town Crier pub, which is my favorite place and is walking distance (50 international beers ON TAP). I'm fixing this problem by taking him out for a drink tomorrow after work. Also! After telling him that I would love to make a coffee porter with their coffee, he agreed to give me some bags of their beans for free!

I am also excited to go in to Chinatown and by some soba noodles.
