Because I missed the SNOM, and there is no SPIT for this month (and also because It Was A Good Thing....)

On Friday I went to Lincoln to watch (and meet up with) our very own @†3X†UR3

    SPIT crossing occured:

    Steve and Texture

Finished Mr. Gibson's Spook Country (which was awesome), currently listening to archives from The Ongoing History of New Music (which is also awesome).

Also splitting my time between working on a semi-sekretive game project with some friends from Uni, doing some writing (hoping to get at least one piece done for steevo's super-short fiction thing), and working on my resume for the first time since I started my degree. The resume thing is oddly enjoyable, and I am trying to savour it since I know I will never again find it enjoyable for the rest of my life (most of the enjoyability comes from actually being able to put Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a Minor in Philosophy on it, which makes me feel all fuzzy).

All in all, life is good.

So Godflesh is playing here at a club in September, so I guess that's cool, too.

Allow me to re-iterate: GODFLESH DOING A CLUB GIG.

    FUCK. YES.

Ahh glorious day of inaction. Some light reading. Some TV watching. Breakfasted on cereal at 2 in the afternoon.

Kind of a crap day yesterday, but I got to see Every Time I Die in Ottawa, which was a blast. First time in two years. Great set, great crowd, even if they were an hour late.

My new voice teacher is an actor with a CV as long as my arm, and on the CV are titles of which I am a fan. So that's pretty damn cool.

More cool is that he is a friend of a friend of mine (we just found that out tonight) and we both love the short-lived, but-awesome-because-it-should-have-never-worked Broadway musical Title of Show.

I just realized all schooling beyond the next two weeks is entirely voluntary for the rest of my life.

I met a guy who shares nearly every element of my bizarre and incredibly particular musical taste, and can finally discuss with someone Infected Mushroom as excitedly as I do Flogging Molly.

Oh, plus I drew a few excellent things, and a beautiful girl confessed her love for me today. All in all, the last 24 hours have been remarkably good.

    Holy fucksticks.
I was just offered a job working with some people that I used to work with (at a now defunct software company) making about twice what I am now. I haven't been happy at my current job, ever. This is probably the best thing for me to do, but I'm scared since it will be doing something I haven't done before. Thinking back, this is basically what I've done with every job so far, though.

(So glad there's a place to share good news with folks.)

Congrats, Robert! That's great news. I'm sure you'll be awesome at the new job =)

As for myself, I finally managed to get that problematic stallion jumping properly instead of pretending to be at a demo derby. Also, my boyfriend just called me to say his best friend (and also a friend of mine) has proposed to his girlfriend of 8 years. Better yet, Ian is to be Best Man! They're going for an August 2012 wedding. =)

Fantastic news for this month? I took a painting to the framing shop in Toronto, and the owner liked it so much that she asked me to email her a catalogue of my work - she owns an art gallery downtown and wants to sell my stuff. She called me back tonight and wants me to produce a bunch of new pieces similar to the Bird Of Paradise painting from my show in Sydney last year.

Also, the huge yellow splotch that was affecting my vision has completely cleared up. The specialist said it was a temporary swelling in my retina that was stress related, rather than the early stage macular degeneration that was previously diagnosed.

The remote for my camera that I ordered came in. It's pretty nifty.

I also got treated to a veggie bento box after doing a good job on a particular press release and bio on a nationally known musician.

    So...yeah. That was good.

[EDIT TO ADD] Also my friend, who knew that I was feeling low over some really bad news recently took me out for a walk in the thunderstorm tonight. Afterwards we sat on my porch and talked until it stopped raining. I laughed a few times. It was nice.

@sleestak - if it weren't for picking up jobs that I didn't know how to do at first, I'd never have raised out of my previous pay rates. Congrats on the new job! You'll do great!

My good month: It was my birthday, I've eaten more Peruvian food this month than I normally do in a year, I've done several interviews for my art collective and they're starting to get their shit more together, I'm waiting on word back from something that might change my life, my mother said she was going to financially help me own a place in the next year if I can qualify for a mortgage and everything is just steadily moving from "being able to keep doing what I'm doing" to "being able to have a future".

I've finished the third issue of my comic and am four pages into the fourth and final issue. Rewrites on my screenplay have it not only long enough, but with pages to spare for trimming (and it was about 25 pages too short after the first draft). I also made progress on several songs that I'm recording last weekend.

Thanks. I'm quite glad about it myself!

Received my copy of Jan's Atomic Heart yesterday...
    Jan's Atomic Heart

Very glad I took the fearless leader's advice and ordered a copy, very inexpensive, and very original. Looking forward to the next work by this author, not sure what the title is, but I'm in...
