the wife and i will defintely be there friday and saturday. i think she is going thursday without me, and i will probably pop in on sunday for some last minute deal scavenging
anyone still on the fence, buy a ticket now: its $35 for all four days. i believe the price goes up to $20/day at the door. its a fun con, and this year is the first year in an even bigger/nicer space so i am pretty excited.
Yep, I got my tickets MONTHS ago, when I heard Leonard Nimoy was going to be there! (and after that they announced George Takei, too). Also got photo tickets for both. We (cosplay daughter and I) will be there every day, as much as we can stand. If you see a "Cafe Alpha" t-shirt it'll be me.
Just wondered if there were any FreakHeads around the Valley, or is it too cloudy & wet of a graphic continuing novel for Phoenix?
PS - I have to be honest, I hate when guys say "THE" wife. It sounds like "yeah, I'm taking THE CAR down to the JiffyLube". You never hear women say "going there with the HUSBAND". 8^(
actually she does call me 'the boy' or 'the guy' sometimes, but thanks
ANYWAY
if any of the few phx people or any out of towners want to hit up some cool stuff downtown the weekend of this, im probably game. i live right down the road from this, so i like to think i know where the good eats/drinkin spots that arent the overpriced hotel bars/ cool nerdy stuff is at
Can't keep up with what's open/what's closed around here anymore - and let that be a word of caution for out of towners - restaurants just close up, twice we've made reservations for a place, and show up the next evening to find it closed. So, Joe, what's decent that's not far away, considering that after a day of schlepping up and down the halls, people (that's me & the hardy New Englander daughter) are not likely to want to schlep much further in what's likely to be warm weather (that would be 95 degrees at 5PM folks, like today). ANYTHING but the food INSIDE the halls, please! Most of the good stuff is north or west a mile away, Grand or Roosevelt.
yep, pretty much all the decent stuff is a train ride/short drive. there is a Duck and Decanter pretty close by. some of the best sandwiches in town (but i think they close at about 6)
The Duce is a new spot thats pretty cool. its decently big inside with full service food, different bars and usually weird art/performances. its family friendly from what ive experienced but sometimes they have indie/hip hop shows as well.
Heritage Square is right close by, and houses Pizzeria Bianco which is UNBELIEVABLE but is a bit of a wait, as well as Nubuo which i havent tried (to much seafood, which i dont really eat) but people LOVE it. if theres a wait at either, you can pop in to Rose and Crown which is a solid little bar with a lot of decent beer on top and better than average bar food-appetizers, sandwiches etc
Minibosses are playing Saturday night, so I'll definitely be there. I imagine I'll be kicking around somewhere that day, too, if not other days. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread in case a grand gathering surfaces.
