oh I had this nailed when I saw "Who's Your Favourite Storyteller" - David Cronenberg because I can listen to his movies while I draw and they still are amazing without looking and he writes things like " LET ME SEE THAT WEIRDO PISTOL yeah THE BULLITS ARE TEETH, THIS ONE'S GOT A CAVITY" , but currently writing comics I don't know haven't read anything that good since Planetary really so I guess it's that guy what's his name?

 I love the stories Mike Mignola and his Hellboy universe take me. But Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba's "Daytripper" spoke so personal that nothing else currently comes even close. It changed my life, much more than the regular "everything you see everyday" that changes your life in small unmeasurable bits.

 Pete Bagge (HATE), Kazuo Koike (LONE WOLF AND CUB), Moebius (ARZACH), Hugo Pratt (CORTO MALTESE) and Alan Moore (WATCHMEN, FROM HELL, SWAMP THING) are probably my all-time favourite comics storytellers. I don't think many, if any, can match them in the way they developed those narratives.

As for current storytellers, probably Jeff Lemire for SWEET TOOTH, Brian Wood for DMZ and Mike Carey for UNWRITTEN, mostly because of the way they combine narrative development and thematic content.

I really like Chris Ware, mainly for the way his narrative sense, even if I don't always like his themes and David Mazzucchelli (PAUL AUSTER'S CITY OF GLASS, ASTERIOS POLYP) who's simply unsurpassed in terms of both visual structure and experimentation.

 The only writer that I pick up almost anything he writes is Brian Wood (sorry Warren, you can beat me later). Channel-Zero, the Couriers, Demo, Local, and of course DMZ. I just love comics that tackle real world issues, and Brian is more than willing to tackle them head on.

 Judging by the shelves in my "library', each have their own inspiration reason, they are;

1. Warren Ellis: SciFi and dialog
2. Alan Moore: Beautiful, well throughout, classic writing
3. Geoff Johns: Gigantic storytelling and arks
4. James Robinson: Alternate/unexpected heroes
5. David Lapham: Crime and sharp/cutting dialog.
6. Matt Fraction: Fresh face.

 I'm currently only tuning in for Alan, Warren, Grant, and Neil, when he does comics. There are other writers I'll read sporadically, but it's largely contingent on whether they're doing work-for-hire or not. I prefer non-clown suit fiction.
