Well, weather's getting better and the time is again ripe for a meet-up with occasional alcohol. Who's up for it?

Will have to let you know in a week or two. Money isn't great, but I'm down.

@ oldhat - we'll have to show Greasemonkey what "May Two-Four" is all about.

Man, I greatly desire to return to your city for a visit.

I'm in! Anywhere close to downtown where I can buy some decent fireworks?

@ Greasemonkey - Pretty much every convenience store becomes an ammo dump round about Victoria Day, Canada Day and Labour Day, particularly if the owners are old-school Chinese. Nothing too powerful or elaborate is available (at least, not out in the open. I'm not sure about Australia's laws on fireworks but I imagine they'd have to be laxer than Canada's - we frown on blowing things up, interferes with our national myth of Peace, order and Good Government and all that.) but your bog-standard Roman candles are widely disseminated. The news-story the last few years every gunpowder holiday, at least in Toronto, has been "Teenage Fireworks Battle Starts Blaze" or some such alarmism. (Because, really, if you can't recklessly wield explosives and aim them at your friends, then who CAN you aim them at? The cops? I wouldn't reccommend it.)

    "Twenty-Fourth of May/ The Queen's Birthday/ If we don't get a holiday,/ We'll all run away!"

Australia has banned all fireworks from public sale since 1986, except in Canberra and the Northern Territory which banned them more recently. It'll be fun to get my hands on something explosive again, that I haven't had to build myself or modify from lesser wimpy fireworks.

As regards the getting together for drinks, we may be able to use my place if you guys don't mind a few art easels, drop cloths and half finished paintings, and if nobody's allergic to cats.

I'd be interested to see when this happens. May be able to schedule my Toronto visit to include it.

How's everyone set for Saturday the 28th?

The 28th could work, as I'll have some dole $ by then. And if it's at Chez Grease, might we also barbecue, in addition to an ordnance display? Got a barbecue? Need one? (A BYOB at a private residence would be fun and much more affordable than the Seven-Dollar Pints on offer here in the Centre of the Universe, as Toronto is "affectionately" known.)

@ oddbill - we'd love to have ya! You were awesome last time, I see no evidence that you've changed. You may have even gotten better while I wasn't looking, for all I know.

@chainsaw- Now that we've a tentative date, schedule travel plans accordingly! Spring/Summer in Toronto is lovely, except when it's not.

Small apartment here, no barbecue - we can order pizza or I can make fettucini boscaiola or something. I'm planning on launching ordinance off the balcony ;-)

@ Grease - No worries about the BBQ. I'd be up for bringing some vittles, if only to soak up the inhuman amount of booze I plan on ingesting.

We can probably shift it back a week.

It now looks as though I'm going to have a family function that weekend, so postponing until early June will suit me better.
  6.  (9851.16)
I actually having a friend visiting me here in Montreal sometime in the first week of June from Toronto and may be able to catch a ride back with her. I might even get lucky and have it line up with when you guys end up scheduling the meet up.

Not someplace we've been before where one of us has said "Hey, I've got an idea..." at any rate.
  7.  (9851.19)
Disgraceland will still have us, I'm pretty sure. It's still fine to use my place if you don't mind a small apartment; I think I can trust you guys not to walk off with the silverware or my autographed Groo issue under your coats.
  8.  (9851.20)
But I have this TERRIBLE NEED to take seven pieces of silverware from every house I visit. Dang it.
