Had a massive brainfart and kept thinking that "Whitechapel" was the same as "Weaponizer" and then ignoring the chatter in this thread 'cause I'd already submitted... So yeah, I'm an idiot, and I might get something submitted ASAP - I've already been working on a highly-fictionalised travel journal of my recent (and ongoing) trip, so I could probably turn one of the chapters into a submission with judicious use of the scalpel.
Feel free to tell me to piss off as I'm stamping all over the deadline. I've got an 800 word story that was submitted somewhere but not picked up. It's just come back to me and I think it would fit the theme.
Is it too late to send it? Like I say don't worry if it is and feel free to tell me to take a hike. Good luck with the project!
@Steevo and texture: Sorry guys, it's just been taking me a bit between my job and moving into a new place. It's still on track, it's just... slow :(
@Warped Savant: I had thought of that. If someone wants to start taking submissions for the next edition now, I wouldn't be offended!
@Steve Toase: If it's ready to send off, sure! After this one, though, I think I'm going to put a halt on submissions, as it's already taking me way too long to edit the one's I've got. That's mostly my fault, but still.
@Anchorbeard - Believe me...I know the feeling. No rush, just wanted to check in with ya.
@Warped - Yeah, that's why I think we need an editor for each edition, they come quickly and there is always some sort of delay. I am still planning on doing OOP 2, but I'll start taking subs for that around the end of August to early September I think.
If anyone wants to edit one of these bad boys, come up with a theme and rules and let us know.
Just pulling this back to the top of the pile to see if anyone is willing to put themselves/a theme forward for the next edition.
Unfortunately I do not have the experience/skill to pull off such a feat myself, but since there's so much enthusiasm for the project I thought it best to pull this thread back up into general usage again as it would be a shame to let it slide considering the vast talent pool available.
Anyone had an idea for the next Quarterly? Nothing has come to my mind yet and I'm not sure I'm ready to be in charge just now, maybe in a few months time if something else I'm working on comes off I will be.
I'm not in a position to lead on something but an idea did occur to me for a theme. One of the real entertaining sights on Whitechapel is the creative abuse develops in the spam threads. How about a Quarterly based on this; on the spambots, inspired by their outpourings, reactions to their posts, explorations of the shadow psychosis of the spambots themselves.
In the spam I've received by email my two favourites have been Cockzilla is the Word, and Crocodile Fanny. Both sound like they've come out of the consensus reality of this place.
Like I said I can't edit or put the volume together, I have two different jobs each day plus writing plus editing for one magazine, but if someone else wants to do something with the idea I think it sums up the caustic, talented river of piss-taking that runs through the catacombs of this here forum.
