Avatar are to launch a new weekly webcomic in October, based on Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows’ Crossed...Si describes the book as “the diary of a doomed settlement besieged by sadistic psycho-horror, with a narrative quirk I’m calling “gonzo comicbook fiction.” And it looks, though I say it myself, fucking tasty.”

man, this last 2 hours before con is killin me after seeing jacen's cover for the preview

My instant reaction to the BleedingCool headline was "Oh God, No. Oh God, YES."

Then, upon finding out Si is writing it? There were no words. I breathed in sharply, making a sound something akin to, say, Gandalf discovering that the One Ring was actually being used as Smaug the Dragon's nostril piercing.

We're DOOMED, Kids. And it's a doom we are not going to be able to tear ourselves away from. A doom that will THRILL.

I'm looking forward to this. No longer will Questionable Content be the most soul-sapping webcomic around!

That news has made me grin like an ape, although something tells me I won't be able to kid myself that the content is totally safe for work, as I've been doing with Freakangels every Friday lunchtime. Still, Simon Spurrier writing Crossed? FUCK YEAH.

Is it wrong to assume that thias will be the only Avatar webcomic for forseeable future?

There will be one or two other announcements between now and SDCC.

    Really looking forward to this.

And trying to NOT imagine what sort of Crossed comic Warren would write, if he ever could be bribed/drugged into doing such a thing.

He did, it was called Blackgas.

I really am looking forward to this-- Spurrier's Books of Magic: Life During Wartime is one of my favorite comic trades of all time, and I really look forward to everything that he produces.

I had the pleasure of meeting Simon today, and he was just such a great guy. I also was fortunate enough to hear him explaining The Crossed to one of the uninitiated. When I bought my copy of the ashcan, he was excited to tell me,
"Check out the dolphin rape on page 2!"
I can't wait for the weekly installments of this, and I'm quite interested to hear about the other plans Avatar is going to be announcing!

Yeah I met Si today as well. Everything Jeff is saying is right on. I snagged the ashcan and Si had it signed by Jacen Burrows too. That Crossed webcomic looks fucking bad ass, I will definitely be reading that. I also grabbed a Neonomicon poster and Jacen signed it for me. Got my picture with Stan Lee and met a few interesting people. Today was so cool, I lost my sunglasses and I'm not even mad.

all the avatar folks were rad, i ran into jacen while solidly hammered at the geek prom but tried to avoid the rest of the crew so as to not slur "duuude wheresfukkin doktah sleeveless (iloveyourcomics)???"

great, fun weekend but i either a street hot dog from midnight or some questionable eggs at around 2 am made me ill and ruined my sunday.

I need to start going to Comic Cons if this is the action you guys get.

Can't wait to see this comic up and running. Could be a very good replacement for Freakangels. i'm sure that Si and Javier have taken a good look at Warren and Paul and said "Heh, they did it and it didn't do them any harm!"

yeah the promo for this says "... like Freakangels ..." about 6000 times. Warren is one innovative bastard. (Although his work seems to be a little more cerebral-investigative, talking about the shape of the mind, rather than smashing-brains on the floor so we can actually investigate the shapes, we will see)

That was another of Tharg's droids Si Spencer, not to be confused with Simon Spurrier. Ol' Green Bonce should probably overhaul his droid-naming protocols.

Would Spurrier also need an incredibly successful online community a la Whitechapel to truly replace FREAKANGELS?
  9.  (9895.18)
@ Miranda''s Eyes- you better believe it and he'll need someone as fucking genius as Ariana too. I went on every other comics website of note yesterday and all their message boards are hideously text ugly, boring , and virtually unusable by comparison!

I see no reason why Si etc wouldn't just use Whitechapel.
