    Hey Whitechapel,

As I said in the introductions thread, I'm an aspiring comics writer. It took me a long time to get going, but reading Warren's work and columns really inspired me to throw myself into it. I took a class at comicsexperience.com to learn how to write scripts, and I just went at it. The result of the class is a 5 page story that I'm currently getting drawn. It's a real learning experience.

I found my artist, Jason Baroody, on the ten ton studios forums, he's been really great to work with. I'm looking for a letterer and colorist now, and planning my next moves.

I have an idea for a longer story arc with the same characters, so this 5-pager has a bit of a set-up feel to it, but I feel that its a complete story on its own. Anyway, I'm not posting the script, cause I understand that's against the rules, but here's the first two inked pages (that's ok to post, right? If not, I will take them down).

Briefly, it's kind of an updated sword and sorcery style story - I like to think of it as Lankhmar with guns. Hope you all like it, and if people are interested, I will post updates as the project moves further along.

comments and criticism is welcome, and I'm happy to answer questions. Thanks for taking the time to look.

As someone who writes an occasional column about practical occultism called Guttershaman, this is right up my alley. Very interested to see more.

Very nice. I'd definitely like to see more.

Well, the art looks great. I'd be really curious to read it. I'm pretty sure you could link to fiction, even though posting fiction is against the rules. (Though I guess I could be wrong.) Because now I want to know what you do, and not just what you've guided the (obviously quite talented) artist to do.
That is, if you were comfortable posting your script or whatnot somewhere for our prying eyes to find.
Nice job so far. Hard to have questions for you, though, when there's so little to know about the product.

    Thanks for the interest everyone!

I'm a little leery of posting the script... basically for the same reasons its against the rules to post them here. I'll think about it though.

I do have a letterer lined up, and should have more complete pages by next week – which I'll post here, if you don't mind bearing with me.

Plenty of people have their websites on their profile pages, which is (if you wanted to) where you could share a script, or a lettered copy of the comic or whatever. Or just let us know when it's colored and finished, and I'm sure we can seek it out.
Posting fiction, as it says in the rules, creates a legal minefield for those professionals who frequent this site—but I believe there's no rule against providing a website and allowing us the freedom to visit it voluntarily.
Because then those of us who visited your site would be responsible for respecting copyright law on our own, rather than just stumbling upon something accidently on a public forum.

But I understand your leeriness. Good luck!

Be very careful about the placement of type within compositions. It has to remain a background element or it becomes a distraction. It's messing up the otherwise very cool third and forth panels. Especially in panel three, where it's squooshed and skewed around an axis inside of a squooshed circle.

Thanks James, I did notice that. I think it pushing it into the background can be handled in coloring, also with some strategic balloon placement.

Still getting the site together, desigining logos, etc. but once I have it, I'll throw the script up.

So like, probably next week or so. thanks for the interest!

Ok folks, here's my attempt at a semi-decent website. First two pages as above, now with 100% more lettering - will keep future updates at the blog most likely, but link to them here. Thanks again to everyone who's expressed interest... hope you enjoy, and the full 5-page story is only a couple of weeks away from being done!

    Thanks!

Got a nice mention here, alongside Brandon Seifert and some other comics experience alumni. I mean, its the comics experience blog, so its not a huge surprise that it's nice... but it still feels good :)

    Hi all,

I wrote a short article about creating Gutter Magic - mostly its about how I went from dreaming about writing comics to actually writing them - hopefully some might find it interesting:

    *mumble*

Trans: Currently reading 'the making of' or les dessous de l'enquête de Guttermagic.

Just to break the silence: I like your ideas, I like the art.
But I haven't an immediate thought that I would consider utter worthy and/or of use to you.
Looking forward reading more of your story. :)
