Wrote a much longer review here.
Fucked Up - David Comes to Life - Might be a tad too long but it's amazingly strong. 80 minutes of soaring punk rock.
Fucked Up - David's Town - The concept of a fake compilation really works. More here.
The Reaganomics - Lower the Bar - Fast snotty pop-punk. More here.
Underground Railroad to Candyland - Know Your Sins - Like the previous album completely indulges the poppier 60s pop and garage rock tendencies of Toys That Kill and works great.
The Credentials - Goocher - Fast snotty punk rock.
World/Inferno Friendship Society - The Anarchy and the Ecstasy - Good ol' stomping cabaret punk. Not as majestic as Addicted to Bad Ideas but a really solid collection of songs.
Night Birds - Fresh Kills Vol. 1 - Maybe this shouldn't count as it's a 7" collection. Really 80s sounding punk rock with a clear surfy DK influence.
The Dwarves - The Dwarves are Born Again - As the opener has it, The Dwarves Are Still the Best Band Ever. Perfectly combines the more genre bending experiments of The Dwarves Must Die with the great punk rock songwriting of The Dwarves Are Young and Good Looking.

Best 7"s and EPs:
Chixdiggit - Safeways, Here We Come - Amazingly catchy power-pop
Vacation - Dream Dad - Low-fi sloppy punk rock
Empire Builder - s/t - Low-fi scratchy punk rock
Stymie/Unfun split - Two of the best bands in punk rock right now.
The Tigermilks - Four punk rock Belle and Sebastian covers. It really works.

Best show of the year so far: Iron Chic

Pretty good but haven't listened to enough yet to really compute: Dude Jams, Face to Face, Something Fierce

Still looking forward to: Turkish Techno (promises to be the Dear Landlord of this year), Stymie, Cobra Skulls, Bomb the Music Industry!, Future Virgins, Night Birds, Direct Hit! (though I think it's just rerecordings of older songs)

Dumbest thing in music of the year: Tie between Ben Weasel's fisticuffs and Tegan and Sara's gloriously stupid article about OFWGKTA.

 Foo Fighters - Wasting Light

I'd never listened to them before, but this album just rocks the hell out better and with more variety than any modern-styled rock I've heard in a long time. The production is especially good, very full and punchy and ringing.

Amon Amarth - Surtur Rising

Seconded, infomancer! They deliver more of their trademark norse tales, staying true to their well-loved style while still innovating in bits and pieces. Songwriting is as strong as ever. I was lucky enough to see them live on their current tour, in which they play the whole thing, front to back, then play a whole 'nother set afterwards. This is metal to storm a citadel to.

Havok - Time is Up

These guys play mid-80's thrash metal better than most actual first- and second-generation thrash bands. Yes, it is absolutely throwback music, but it's the best throwback you'll find around, and for those of us too young to enjoy the emergence of thrash in person, it's fun to have young bands who are playing the same stuff.

Anna Calvi : Anna Calvi – Slots right in there with Nick Cave/PJ Harvey.
Dirty Beaches : Badlands – Sounds more like a Suicide record than the Alan Vega record released this year, which is actually really great.
Egyptrixx : Bible Eyes – Some of the better wobbly Bass Music I’ve heard this year.
Kode9 & The Spaceape : Black Sun – I feel like this passed by almost unnoticed. I think it’s genius.
Cold Cave : Cherish The Light Years – Utterly retro, but we all need to relive our Gothy past every once in a while, and If I can do that without searching for my Rosetta Stone albums, so much the better.
Cult of Youth : Cult of Youth – More new Goth, but they’ve got more of a Swans meets New Model Army vibe, and they put on a hell of a live show.
Gang Gang Dance : Eye Contact – Kind of like a tour through the last two decades of Dance music.
Umberto : Freeze! – Soundtrack to an 80’s cop movie that never existed.
Gatekeeper : Giza - Pounding retro Industrial.
Mountain Man : Grief – Intense, slightly experimental, Hardcore that takes the 5 stages of grief as its overarching theme. “Anger 1” being the song that I return to the most. Anything that begins with the hoarsely shouted “Death to sorrow, death to fucking sorry” has my attention.
Slug Guts : Howlin’ Gang – A sludgy blast of Birthday Party/Scientists Rock.
Grouper : A I A : Alien Observer – More straightforward than her previous work, but still gorgeous.
Cankun : Jaguar Dance – Not Not Fun has my vote for label of the year, and Cankun is one of several NNF artists in my best-of list. The Glo-Fi sound of last year abstracted and droned-out.
Dylan Ettinger : Lion of Judah – More NNF. Great cover of “Being Boiled.”
Tim Hecker : Ravedeath, 1972 – Masterful Electro-Drone.
Marc Hurtado & Alan Vega : Sniper – The sickest, noisest thing that Vega has done in years.
Moon Wiring Club : A Spare Tabby At The Cat's Wedding – Freaks out everyone in my office.
Maria Minerva : Tallinn At Dawn – Probably my favorite NNF release. I’ve been describing it as a Stereolab tape left baking in a hot car.

Wait, really nobody has mentioned the Mountain Goats yet? All Eternals Deck is fucking brilliant. A sense of quiet menace throughout the entire album. The Autopsy Garland may be my favourite song off it.

I have also really enjoyed Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under, and Vices & Virtues.

Possibly my favourite album of the year though is Don't Change Your Plans by Jen Buxton, a local singer songwriter who until recently was in a band I really liked. It's real Sad Bastard Music, the solo stuff! If you have just had some kind of breakup or you just feel like having a good cry, this is what you want to be listening to. Unfortunately any songs from the album that are online in a non-live-youtube kind of way are streaming in different places, not sure what's up with that. Maybe I Am is on myspace and Don't Change Your Plans is on her record company's website. Most of the album is on youtube cos she opened for Frank Turner here in Sydney and someone was there with a good camera, buuut unfortunately the audience were dicks and so you can't hear the music very well over them talking in the back of the room. Whatever whatever I'm a fangirl :P

and oooh really new Andrew Jackson Jihad? sweet! Looking forward to that. Those guys are fucked up. ETA that reminded me to check when the new Indelicates album is out, and it's already preorderable! yaaaay :D

Seconding (or thirding?) both the new Beastie Boys (real greasy, grimy production ala Check Your Head; I like that) and the new TV On The Radio (easily their most positive group of tunes yet; plus "Caffeinated Consciousness" ranks for me as one of the best things they've ever written). Blueprint's new record (it's called Adventures In Counter-Culture)has probably been my favorite release of the year so far: totally independent of genre and trends, conceptual, dense. I really liked that Danger Mouse/Jack White/Norah Jones/Daniele Luppi project too (Rome), which isn't getting as much attention as it deserves. Very relaxing, really beautiful, patient songs that will make you believe in things.

But yeah, I'm hoping the second half will be chocked full of better releases.

*EDIT: Oh, and yeah Radiohead was cool, I liked it (although I know a lot of people did not).
