My turn to start this. Apologies to Fearless Leader for bringing it back, but damn it, I had a good day.

Today I finally went back to boxing classes.

Late December was my first time there and I vowed to go back. But due to money problems and several other reasons, I haven't been able to go until now. And CHRIST, do I feel energised now. This week has been a pretty big week with getting fit. I've been running, walking and now I can add boxing to my schedule.

The club is Toronto Newsgirls, an all-female boxing club that's been making quite a name for itself lately. The owner/head coach Savoy is SUCH an awesome person and everyone there is so welcoming and willing to stop what they're doing to give you a few pointers.

A moment that made me smile inside and out: I'm on the punching bags and on the bag next to me is another woman about six feet tall. She looks at me, comes over, extends her gloved hand and says "Tall girl fist bump!". We bump fists and talk.

It was just...yeah. Fucking awesome.

I just finished writing my final paper. Just now. It's 10pm over here. I had totally planned on pulling an all-nighter, and I, am, done. I just have to go over it once more to make sure it's all good, then one final time tomorrow to check for editing, and after I turn it in, I'll have turned in my last assignment of my undergraduate career. SO HAPPY.

An independent film that I auditioned for over two years ago and thought I'd been cast in seemed to have vanished from the face of the earth, and I'd almost forgotten about it when the director emailed me just yesterday telling me it's finally getting made. I'm playing a small role and may be assisting with fight choreography.

Also an agent of significant clout came to see my last play and contacted me asking for my headshot and resume and to request a meeting. Good things could come of this.

Today, for the first time, I got to go to 99 Ranch Market. I personally dig places that are essentially multicultural, places around the world where culture, ethnicity, heritage from all different kinds of people crash into each other and the locals just live it up in the mix. And I found that at 99 Ranch, like whoa. Dim sum, hundreds of different kinds of noodles, rices from all over the world by the kilo, and almost as many different kinds of beans, dragon fruit, kale, mixed up with pineapples, avocados, bananas, piloncillo and other Latin American spices, salsas, masa for tamales, kimchee, Korean ginseng teas - actually a full cornucopia of Asian teas, sake, whiskey and tequila.

United fucking Nations of food. Love it.

I met a wonderful wonderful man, on Wednesday, who made me laugh so hard. I managed to bring him home with the line "So, are we going to your place or mine, afterwards?". I got awesome sex and epic cuddles in abundance and it was totally worth the time. He lives in Oslo, just working here for a few weeks, but so what? I'm still all happy happy joy joy! Now I just need to dare to send him a text and ask if we should do something... But what?

Today I woke up ridiculously early, had coffee with a friend at six in the morning, hung out 'til 11, went to Hulen (the small rock club where I work) at 3, meeting, then photoshoot with real champagne, then more people and beers, then BBQ in the park, ice cream, then an opening and some free cava, and all in the glorious sunshine in the beautiful city that is named Bergen. I love this day. Now I'm listening to The Cure. Getting mr. long hair video tech back here to cuddle me is all I need in the world now, but I'll do without too. Don't think I'll dare send that text today! ^^

I tried boxing once: for 5 minutes, at school, several years ago. I put on gloves, I stood in front of a friend: and then he punched me in the face! I couldn't get over it! I tried something else after that (woodworking).

Sorry I won't be coming to meet all y'all (Robin and, uh, Greasemonkey, and, Mr Hex) tomorrow. I wish, though. Maybe I can ... drop in? I'll write to you.

I'm getting better at biking. My regular commute, from Mimico to Yonge and Eglinton, used to be an hour and a quarter. Now it's just under an hour (and even less than that, on the way home). It's a 36 km round trip each day: so I'm hoping to bike nearly 10,000 km this year.

I got an email from a famous company today, asking if I'd license my source code: makes me feel all important, and grown-up. Since writing that code, I've take a job (based on my experience writing it) with an employer, and so become an employee; furthering that code would then put me in conflict of interest with my new employer (to whose office I'm now been commuting by bike, since this February), so this is the perfect opportunity to hand off my code to self-employed programmer friends, who I haven't had time to see much of in the last few months because I've been getting into a new job and commuting for 2 1/2 hours each day, to see whether *they* will make anything of it. It took me about two years of self/un-unemployment to write.

I took the bus to work today: upping the bike speed is, well, it can be a bit hard on the knees. Who'd have thought it, eh: not the muscles or the lungs, but the *knees* are the weak link. And after 4 days of pushing it I was beginning to feel it, and think it prudent to take it easier again for a day or three, an early weekend: because if I let it become chronic, that would *really* spoil my fun. Anyway, on the TTC today, I happened to read a review for _La Quattre Volte_ which opened today and which looks like fun, so maybe I get to see *that* sometime, even this weekend.

Tomorrow starts with Tai Chi practice in High Park (well, that's the first *public* appearance, anyway: 9:30 AM), same as every Saturday, in summer.

Ciao, caro/cara.

Fan: Just e-mail Greasemonkey and we'll hope to see you there!
mojokingbee: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!! *throws confetti and small intestines in the air*

As for me...uh...I ended up snogging with the most attractive person I have ever met. Well, one of them. Definitely the most attractive stranger I've ever met.

It would have led to something else, but I live an hour away from where we were and...uh...with my parents...which I neglected to mention to him. Still! We talked, he wasn't that interesting, we snogged, and when we parted I proceeded to punch my aching lady bits and scream "FFFFUUUUCCCCK!".

And you know what? I feel great about it even though nothing ended up happening because...

1. I seemed to have made a big step in me being comfortable in sexual situations, especially casual sexual situations (which normally freezes me up and leaves me running). Those who know me know this is a BIG DEAL for me.
2. It has made me feel that someone has noticed that I've been focusing on my appearance lately, which...is nice.
3. Holy fuck, the last boy I dated was a -30 compared to this guy, who was a solid 10. FFFFFUUUUUCKKK.....

...but yeah. It was a nice confidence boost.

 @oldhat, @odaelisabeth - Nice work!
@mojokingbee - Happy birthday! You're in oz, right? If you ever make it down to Melbourne, we'll have to organise a Whitechapel meetup with some of the others.

Don't think I've ever contributed to this thread before, so here goes.
I'm currently studying animation in an amazing course. It feels like where I'm supposed to be, as opposed to a year ago when I was floating around, working a decent job but not really into what I was doing and with no idea where it was heading.
While I should be working madly on my last project for the semester, I was at a wedding yesterday, catching up with people I haven't seen in years and generally having a wonderful time.
Tonight, I'm catching up with more friends and seeing my girlfriend's play for the second time. It's a really strong piece of theatre and I'm so proud of her. Also, she's awesome and we moved in together a couple of months ago. It's been easy and great.
Retching yet? Don't worry, I'll scuttle off to stress about my animation now.

Oh it's so quiet at work today.

The unit is under lock-down after the massive fight last week. Which means, although I still have to be at work, it's very quiet, sleepy and easy right now.

Currently, I'm in the first week of using my CPAP machine, for my sleep apnea. A little frustrating to configure just right to make sleep happen. I'm just glad that I'm starting to get energy back after months of sleeping all night, and waking up feeling like an insomniac.

My girlfriend and I are currently sleeping in separate beds though :( but not due to relationship woes; its bedbugs! Goddamn it! Apparently the drug dealers that got evicted left behind nasty little pests. They've been eating me alive for a couple months now, but we just figured out what the cause was. So I'm sleeping on my futon and the lady is on the guest bed (that isn't quite big enough for her AND govspy... we'll not big enough for sleeping anyway).

Pest guys come by on Monday to inspect, and then they'll exterminate later. Anyone else have experience getting rid of bedbugs?

 DIATOMACEOUS EARTH!

I sleep with my bed pulled away from the walls and surrounded by a thick ring of the stuff and thus far, nothing bites me while I sleep - and they always went after me, I've found one once in my office across the apartment in broad daylight nomming on my leg.
I keep what I plan to use easily in a container with holes in the top (I bought a 5lb bag off amazon) and just powder it around the baseboards, then go back with a broom to really shove it down into the little crevices and kill them and it helps to blend it into the walls (if you have white walls, I suppose). Just make sure that while you're laying it down you wear a dust mask as it's bad for soft lung tissues. Once it's down though, it doesn't kick up so just make sure your bedding doesn't fall into the powder or you'll have to clean it off.

Steam everything as it kills the eggs. Wrap your bedding in plastic - I found those vinyl covers in a local fabric store of all places for $5 but they also tear incredibly easy. Use duct tape for patching jobs/to reinforce the corners if you use a metal bed frame that's likely to tear it open.

Today I ran another three miles

Good luck with keeping *that* up, through *this* weather. Biking 2 hours/day, at 12 mph, I guess I'm burning an extra 1000 calories/day. The fact that I'm doing for commuting keeps me at it, every day. I'm getting interesting tan lines. At least, when you're biking, there's a breeze: no matter what the temperature.

If you do get a bike, get one that fits you: the "women-specific geometry" of a bike is not so much to let you wear a skirt, it's (more importantly) to have one that you can actually sit/fit on (i.e. whose saddle fits your probably-wider hip-bones), and which you can reach (I think of my arms as having a ridiculously wide wing-span, whereas women are often more compact/petite).

 > I found a source for my beloved La Fin Du Monde

So, where's that then?

Someone told me about "Faxe" recently: a 500ml can of 10% beer from The Beer Store, 6 cans for about $20, each can therefore being about as strong as a 1/2 bottle of wine. A remarkable achievement, to be sure, if you mostly just like alcohol, but I'd greatly prefer the treat of the taste of La Fin Du Monde again.

> I also saw Bridesmaids

I saw _La Quattre Volte_. It was ... sparser than I imagined. I thought it would be more ... explicit. I'd like to find nice things to say about it: it was ... different; the ... explanation of how to create charcoal was interesting; ... I thought that the dog wasn't as good an actor as the critics had given me to believe (he didn't look "worried" at all). It was, apparently, some kind of "art film". I ... kind of enjoyed it. It was worth every one of (well, many of ... several of) its 88 minutes.

What the film critics' giving it four stars, their saying, "I've suffered for my art: now it's your turn"?

Ah well.

After that I saw "Eat, Pray, Love" on DVD. The actress has a nice smile, and seeing the scenery was somewhat educational (I've lived in Italy, never seen India or Bali).

This morning I was worrying about not having enough money to get around much while I'm in NYC next week. So far the amount I had was about $40. I was kind of depressed about this on my way to the office.

When I got to the office, my dad called saying that I got two cheques from the government in the mail. I asked him to open them up. One is $250 and the other is $260. $510 I can now breathe a bit easier in New York.

I love it when things like that happen.

As for yesterday, I had another amazing workout at Toronto Newsgirls Boxing Club. At the end a few of us stayed behind and talked and one woman walked to the station with me. I think...I think I'm making friends there now.

Also! I was told that there were two women that were about my height and weight class that are looking for sparring partners other than themselves! This makes me ridiculously happy as I really want to get in the ring!

 This is a good June,

I just got a new job, it pays lots more than the old job, and the project I will be working on is about 50 times cooler. I start monday!

The new job also opens the door for even better news - I can afford my own place again, yay for moving out of tiny window basement room into classy digs I can actually live in. With a nice big kitchen.

So yes, vile hugs!

All my work seems to be paying off with the young stallion I've been training - took him to a dressage show today and came home with a 3rd, a 4th, and a 1st. Wicked. My filly stopped trying to buck me off, and when she does buck, I finally have some measure of control over her now. It's pretty awesome to be able to actually stay on the horse and keep her fuzzy-side-up. Even better, we won her division at the NNEP Horse Trials last weekend! Good things =)
Also, my beer soap finally got here! That "Sex Panther" stuff is awesome, and @Oldhat hit it on the nose in her review of the soap.

Pleasantly exhausted after a weekend of lawn mowing, tree cutting, and playing chauffeur for the grandchild. The dead ash tree that was threatening the garage is now down and mostly cut up, as is the smaller dead one behind it. Granddaughter was allowed to watch the felling of the trees, and exclaimed "Grampy! That's amazing!" It's so easy to be impressed when you're three. :-)

Anyway, all the branches are removed, cut, and either burned or stacked, depending on their condition. Most of the trunk is cut up, but the rest will have to wait for a new chainsaw blade. Dead ash and oak are pretty hard on those things.

I now sit enjoying a nice light dinner, catching up on a few web sites, and being amused at the English language. Funny, isn't it, how a description like "cut the trees down, cut the trees up" is accepted without a blink, but "cut the trees down and up" make people have to stop and think.

 Go Argos, go!!

Finally home, back in civilization. Spent the last three days in a very nice house, dogsitting for a friend. Nice, upscale residential neighborhood at the doorstep to the desert. Not familiar with the area so I didn't know where to do any shopping and I had just run out of smokes. Furthermore just ran out of smokes a few days ago. Eventhough I've been thinking of quitting suddenly being forced to not have the option and no distractions led to intense nicfitting. Finally, and worst, my POS computer just wouldn't connect to the house wireless.

So very glad to be home, caffeinated, online and and with a smoke break not too long from now.

ETA Also finished watching Ergo Proxy and found it amazing, intricate and superdark. Drove home equally determined to get back to (virtual) civilization and to bone up on some philosophy.

So I got the promotion that was basically the pre-requisite for me moving to Phoenix.

I'm actually kind of ambivalent. On the one hand: PROMOTION! With a not insignificant raise (that's salaried, even)! On the other hand: Now I HAVE to move to Phoenix (and Phoenix did NOT leave a good impression on me when I went out there a couple weeks ago to look for an apartment). I was all ready to say 'fuck this company' and quit and stay in California if I got passed over for the promotion, but now that I have it and I know how much money I'll be making I can't really afford to do that.

So I am celebrating with grilled chicken spaghetti and ice cream.

Father's Day hanging out: brunch at a really beautiful restaurant. Sis, baby brother and sis's fiance joined us after initially thinking they couldn't make it. So we had a good time talking movies & TV and chatting about silly things.

I gave my dad Akira Kurosawa's Ikiru. Had to forcibly restrain myself from super-hyping the movie. I really, really like it. He's a Kurosawa fan but I'm not sure how he'll like a non-chanbara film. But we got a random high-five from another restaurant patron who was passing by and saw the DVD. He's a big fan and immediately identified with me on it being very similar to It's a Wonderful Life; he called Ikiru his favorite movie, though.

Haven't watched it yet. MB is visiting and he has a tendency to monopolize Dad's time either with long, looong discussions about whatever or getting him to watch manly he-men shows on Discovery like Ice Truckers and that one where the guy eats all the crazy survival food.

May get to start watching Hellsing tonight with my bros. }:>

Congrats on moving in with Big Daddy S Citrus! Robin, out of interest, are you sparring or just training? Thinking of taking it up[ myself... Rachel as Audrey Horne = awesome. I love this thread.

I'm spending a week in Berlin with my wee bro. So far I've been to Tacheles, the huge art squat in Oranienburg Strasse, and to a spoken word concert, where Danielle de Picciotto read from her book The Beauty of Trangression, about the growth of the Berlin techno / alternative scene through the 80s and 90s, to a soundtrack by her husband Alexander Hacke of Einsturzende Neubaten.

It was an incredible gig, a unique, subjective look at a really fascinating period in berlin's history. Picciotto hung out with Neubaten, The Bad Seeds, DJ Hell and Blixa Bargeld, and was instrumental in he;ping set up Taschele and other galleries - all of this was documented with projected photos and super-8 footage.

Heard about the event from a witch house / dark electronica label called Pale Musik, and I was very impressed at the level of sophistication and intelligence the event displayed. Hope to find more of this kind of thing while I'm here.

 Oldhat, so awesome!! :D

And thanks Alan Tyson ^_^

Um, only thing fabulous for me lately is that I finally patched an inner thigh hole in my favorite pair of pants. I'm hoping to get back on track with exercising and eating well soon, since lately what with my graduation, moving to a new apt, Father's day, and a slew of other things, it's been lots of celebration eating and not much time/energy to workout. Good news is that I've been mostly able to stay in a "weight maintenance" mode, even if I'm not currently losing weight, though I did go up a couple pounds, but 2 or 3 lbs isn't too much to worry about. *phew*

However, today I grabbed a shirt that I used to have to roll on like a condom which made me avoid wearing it all but once. Today, being a low tide in laundry, said shirt was on top, I grabbed it, knew it would be a bad idea and low and behold I put it on and it fits, well, with three inches of guttural clearance. It is safe to say that I am less fat now. I am approaching gross milestone which, while great news, is a reminder how nasty I was. Assuming I have her on a day when the damn sun is out.

On the vile, but no hugging front, I found a puddle on the floor of the front seat of my car again. I got this "fixed" less than two years ago so I know the cascading failure of parts that will follow as more water gets into the electronics. Though I tragically missed seeing Amanda Palmer on Thursday due to illness, I did manage to go and catch a Reggie Watts show yesterday in Red Hook for FREE!! His live performance was far better than any of the videos I've seen. I went by myself, actually managed to not get there so late I missed it, and took many photographs of the wonderfully industrial areas surrounding. On my walk back, I got confirmation phone call from my first official client of my new madcap service idea.

Finally launched a website I've been working on since late April - the check is supposedly in the mail.
Obtained another website building job, only this time without a CMS involved. Looks like someone is getting a new pretty dress next month.

I spent the weekend at a friend's place in Connecticut. I swam in a lake, ate delicious foods, rode a tiny carousel, built a fire with logs and trash from someone's car, saw a beagle riding on a kayak, saw amazing musicians play on a stage in the backyard, ran around naked wearing a thong & giant horse head and got to snuggle with some of my favourite ladies. Oh and when I left I was driven to the train station in a vintage Mustang.

Sunday I returned to NYC to run the Dr. Sketchy's NYC branch for our Vampirella session, which went off smashingly. Came home to watch Dr. Who episodes with my friend and then finally get a good long sleep in.

I am reenergized!

So, after moving half way down the country from the very urban central Nottingham to the very green surroundings of Surrey, I am not quite settled and still miss everyone I know back in good old Notts. However, the whole point of the move was to improve mine and my boyfriend's quality of life, which it has. I get to have a garden now that I can sit in when the weather decides to be nice.

I decided to make changes to my eating habits this month as my weight was getting out of control, so far I've lost approximately 6kg, which I'm rather proud of. I might even get to a weight I'm comfortable with again before the end of the year, which would be amazing. Though it's very hard to resist the Krispy Kreme shop in town...

On a separate note, reading everyone's collective good fortune makes me smile.

Today was not a good day. Water started spewing from my ceiling at around 2 PM today, and I spent the next few hours attempting to target and capture the drips as they progressed across my apartment. A few of my hemi-spherical light fixtures ended up completely full of water, and will have to be replaced, along with a whack of painting that will have to be done to my ceiling to cover up the saturated drywall. Many drinks later, I am still paranoid and upset about the whole ordeal.

However, spending the last hour hanging out in a Turntable room with Neil Freaking Gaiman did much to alleviate that. I am glad I live alone, as any potential roommate would be scared away at the obscene amount of giggling that I did during the entire thing. (Oh man, he totally responded to one of my tweets, too! Ehehehehehehe!)
