I am happy for you Argos.

I gave my first mini speech in my communications class today and didn't pee myself. Win. Also manage to mention comics, but am still working up the courage to mention Warren. That will be in my persuasive speech, "Comics are(n't) just for kids."

Beamish, public speaking can be tough, good to hear you did well :) I had to give a mini speech as well for my last class at UCSD.

I'm pretty comfortable when it comes to speaking in front of people I know. A new class with a bunch of strangers, that's when it's rough for me. By the 2nd or 3rd I should be fine.

    Go Argos, go!!

Finally home, back in civilization. Spent the last three days in a very nice house, dogsitting for a friend. Nice, upscale residential neighborhood at the doorstep to the desert. Not familiar with the area so I didn't know where to do any shopping and I had just run out of smokes. Furthermore just ran out of smokes a few days ago. Eventhough I've been thinking of quitting suddenly being forced to not have the option and no distractions led to intense nicfitting. Finally, and worst, my POS computer just wouldn't connect to the house wireless.

So very glad to be home, caffeinated, online and and with a smoke break not too long from now.

ETA Also finished watching Ergo Proxy and found it amazing, intricate and superdark. Drove home equally determined to get back to (virtual) civilization and to bone up on some philosophy.

So I got the promotion that was basically the pre-requisite for me moving to Phoenix.

I'm actually kind of ambivalent. On the one hand: PROMOTION! With a not insignificant raise (that's salaried, even)! On the other hand: Now I HAVE to move to Phoenix (and Phoenix did NOT leave a good impression on me when I went out there a couple weeks ago to look for an apartment). I was all ready to say 'fuck this company' and quit and stay in California if I got passed over for the promotion, but now that I have it and I know how much money I'll be making I can't really afford to do that.

So I am celebrating with grilled chicken spaghetti and ice cream.

    Mazel tov, Argos!

Also: I need everybody here to put forth Intent into the universe regarding a possible development at the office; one that would be most welcome.

Animation Insider posted a Q & A I did with them this week:

There are a couple of pieces I drew and painted that haven't been shown elsewhere.

The beard(stache) is gone. Man, haven't been clean shaven since like February. This won't last. I look like I'm 12.

La la la la! I met awesome people in line for the Simon Pegg book signing (one of which is from my home town, is friends with all the younger siblings of a dozen people I've known since I was 15, has the last name Kubert, and is an assistant editor at DC - how I've never known this woman before is BEYOND me!). We were on line for hours, but it was a total blast, and went out for dinner together afterwards! Yay!!

    BWAAAaaaaAAAAAH!

    AWESOME line friends!!

@Rachæl- so is Katie related to Joe in some way?
  7.  (9916.75)
I'm not sure, but the Kubert school is only 20 minutes from my home town, so it's not unlikely.

    This week:
    I made honours entry.
I got a job for the summer.
I got a new flatmate who is prodigiously talented with teh musicz.
I killed my laptop and brought it back to smoother, faster life.
I developed a sweetly problematic crush.
Dammit... And everything was going so well.

Father's Day hanging out: brunch at a really beautiful restaurant. Sis, baby brother and sis's fiance joined us after initially thinking they couldn't make it. So we had a good time talking movies & TV and chatting about silly things.

I gave my dad Akira Kurosawa's Ikiru. Had to forcibly restrain myself from super-hyping the movie. I really, really like it. He's a Kurosawa fan but I'm not sure how he'll like a non-chanbara film. But we got a random high-five from another restaurant patron who was passing by and saw the DVD. He's a big fan and immediately identified with me on it being very similar to It's a Wonderful Life; he called Ikiru his favorite movie, though.

Haven't watched it yet. MB is visiting and he has a tendency to monopolize Dad's time either with long, looong discussions about whatever or getting him to watch manly he-men shows on Discovery like Ice Truckers and that one where the guy eats all the crazy survival food.

May get to start watching Hellsing tonight with my bros. }:>

I got so many congratulations on being a good dad yesterday, that I'm still glowing.
My dad's a full on schmuck and bailed early, then repeated fucked up regarding my brother and I, so I'm probably over compensating. BUT, I've been trying REALLY hard to be the kind of dad I wanted. So nice to know I'm on the right track (Four years and counting!). *sigh of relief*

My soon to be 18 year old son presented me with the complete Curb Your Enthusiasm and some bottles of McEwens Champion Ale for Fathers Day. Another one of those times when I think we didn't do to bad a job there and raised a good'un. Although his mam should probably take most of the kudos!
