It's been a while since we've had a pipe thread. So let's get this shit on!

Who here smokes pipes? What do you have? How many, what kind? What's your choice of blend?

Pictures are also welcome as always. But don't be bringing your topless beard pics around here--that's another thread. Unless, of course, you're naked and bearded and have a pipe.

Also, as additional food for thought you can write a letter to your congressman if you're in the US to try to change taxes on pipe tobacco. Which might be a lost cause, but what the hell, I signed anyway.

 I make my own pipes, turning the sections individually and drilling out the centre before fitting them together. The pyrography on the outside is done with a modified solderng iron.

I smoked this one pretty heavily while working on my exhibition last year, then gave it to my brother in law as thanks for all the help he gave us when we moved to Toronto.

 That is a nice pipe, sir. Look's like a Peterson's of Dublin, actually. But if you're going to smoke illicit materials, it ought to be a three-foot meerschaum with a Bacchus figural.

 That particular pipe is made from yellowbox, a type of eucalypt that's widely used in Australia for forklift pallets, fence posts and basically anything else that needs to be hard and durable. I sold a few like this to pot growers who like to puff on the leaves instead of discarding them. It's 22" long, with a large bowl that holds over a cubic inch of smoking material - perfect for social settings where everyone gets a few big tokes without running dry.

 @Greasemonkey: I actually think Cubans aren't all they're cracked up to be. My absolute favorite cigar is Alec Bradley Tempus, the Centuria size -- although they recently changed the outer wrapper (used to be darker), so I don't know if it's still the very best. If you want a good Cuban, Castro only smoked Romeo y Julieta habanos.

@oldhat: NAUGHTY

 Apparently Cubans aren't as good now because their tobacco isn't as high in quality as it used to be. Shortage of fertilizer and other agricultural supplies.

I've been smoking Tatianas lately, a Dominican brand with vanilla bean extract. There's also a cheapo brand from Nicaragua that I like, but they're kind of strong-smelling and make my apartment reek.
