Filming has started and the titles and the writers of the next series of Sherlock have been announced - here.

Fortunately Moffat and Gatiss are taking an episode each again.
Unfortunately they've given the third to Steven Thompson the fella who wrote the terrible second episode and that awful Pirate episode of Doctor Who.

Unfortunately they've given the third to Steven Thompson the fella who wrote the terrible second episode and that awful Pirate episode of Doctor Who
Oh goddammit. What the hell guys? That second Sherlock episode was just unwatchably bad.

Maybe since they've got him doing the finale this time, they'll pay proper attention to the quality of the script he turns in.

Still, the other news is EXCITING!

Unfortunately they've given the third to Steven Thompson the fella who wrote the terrible second episode and that awful Pirate episode of Doctor Who.

Ugggh. I wouldn't call it awful but that guy shouldn't be given another detective show to write.

That second Sherlock episode was just unwatchably bad.

Not half as bad as the ending of the third episode. Moriarty was more convincing and interesting on Star Trek than on Sherlock. And who ends a three-episode series with a guns & bomb cliffhanger that obviously won't be resolved with anybody dying? Of course if they did kill Moriarty off the show could go back to riding on the acting.

Not half as bad as the ending of the third episode.
I can't disagree with you more.

Like, it physically impossible. I thought Moriarty was the high point of the series, and every time I try to watch the third episode again, I end up skipping forward and watching the ending instead.

I had mixed feelings on Moriarty. Without spoiling it for anyone who hasn't seen the third episode yet, I really enjoyed his kind of criminal modus operandi and the way in which he was a foil to Sherlock, but something about the encounter struck me as wrong. He somehow came across to me as both sinister and somehow mincing. I wasn't certain if he was using sexuality as another weapon in his psychological antagonism, or if that was his innate nature, or if indeed there was an air of schizophrenic behavior. There's some line between a psychopath and a sociopath that I think he needs to manage, but I like the idea of a controlled evil rather than one that can fly off the handle. If that was him playing a role to throw Sherlock off his game or to set a pattern of behavior that he'll deviate from as needed according to his master plan... well then, bravo.

I'm not as well read on the original Sherlock series as I should be, how does Moriarty compare from the original to this portrayal?

I am heartened that Moffat is making more episodes, although he earned a lifetime pass from me for Jekyll. This is definitely encouraging for the future of the series.

I was late to Sherlock as i saw it in Iceland a few months after the BBC.

I rather liked it. Moriarty was rather unsettling in that he just seemed so cool about it all and that Holmes was just nothing more than an annoyance. If they portray him as a true evil genius, i expect Sherlock to be doing a lot of frantic catch-up style scenarios, constantly being on the back foot.

Good new on Gatiss and Moffat taking more episodes...

Ok yeah, poopyness factor of number two ('The Blind Banker') is very apparent.

However, I'm going to go out on a limb and say the denouement of 'Study In Pink' was underwhelming and that 'The Blind Banker' actually has a better, more exciting, ending.
I was all fired up for the dastardly trick that made people commit suicide... then, y'know... gun. That was a bit of a let down after such an awesome build up.

But two was, on the whole, unoriginal and far too silly. And can we please drop the 'mysterious-and-inscrutable-Chinese' thing? Maybe I'm being super-PC but it was kind of embarrassing...
