    Christian (OLYMPUS) Ward is seriously impressive.

    Daniel Schaffer has been around for aaages, and deserves a bigger audience, Imo.

    Fred Van Lente's stories on ASM are the best thing about the series. He's one I've got my eye on.

    I like Dan, but let's not be silly -- he hasn't done a comic since, what, 07?

    Stokoe, Brandon Graham, Marian Churchland, Marley Zarcone -- that whole group is going to be huge. (not completely sure Brandon counts as a newbie, but still.)

    Nate Simpson, obviously. Simon Roy. Annie Woo. Will Kirkby. Jeremy Bastian?

    Kate Beaton will of course own everyone within the year.

    the talented young miss Annie Wu has a little something happening in the new House of Mystery issue coming out in September(?)

    Also: Chris Burnham (Batman Inc) and Nick Pitarra is drawing The Red Wing for Jonathan Hickman! He's come a long way since posting his stuff on boards ^__^

    As far as writers go, Nick Spencer's deserved all the praise (and all the work) he's been getting. I'm also genuinely excited to see that Nate Edmondson (Who Is Jake Ellis?) and Mike Costa (IDW's GI JOE: COBRA, which is so much better than a GI JOE book ought to be) have been given titles in the DC relaunch. I'll be watching those books closely. I'm hoping Josh Fialkov kills it on I, Vampire.

    Could we pull Kelly Sue Deconnick on this list? She's had a couple majors but given time, especially after reading Supergirl today, she could be on par with Gail Simone.

    Al Ewing who is taking over Jennifer Blood from Garth Ennis as his first toe in the American comic book water, but not the last, unless Americans hate beards.

    Tiernen Trevallion is going to be big, I'd bet my willy on it. Just look at his Feast of Toys (some B&W pages too and I don't know what this is all about) and he is currently showing what he can do in his first series at 2000AD, Absalom, although I don't expect Tharg will be able to keep him for long.

    I agree with Warren about Will Kirkby (I got to see his Tuk Tuk cityscape at Bristol this year and it is amazing) and would add WJC - his Gungle should be a big break-out hit. I picked up WJC's Kani and NBC #3, which has his "Von Trapp" story in it, and want more of both, please.

    Annie Wu. Nate Simpson — although he needs to find a release model that suits his working speed better, like short OGNs/prestige format or something.

    Joey Comeau is going to own if he ever decides to pursue comics writing outside of A Softer World.

    Kate Beaton, of course.

    Very impressed by Who Is Jake Ellis? Both the dudes on it are kicking ass.

    I honestly think Lukas Ketner is going to be big — and I'm not just saying that because I collaborate with him!

    Sean Murphy and Dustin Weaver both turned everybody's heads in 2010. I'm sure by the end of the decade they'll be ubiquitous.

    Jamie Smart, funniest and hardest working cartoonist in the UK. Alongside his pro work in British kids' comics like the DFC and the Dandy, he puts his odder, less kid-friendly stuff, like Whubble, Kochi Wanaba and Corporate Skull, on the web.

    Oh I also agree about that whole crew with Brandon Graham, Marley, and Marian. Also good shout on WJC. I've been following him on his blog, and the stuff he does is really freaking cool.

    Gonna Nth the Graham/Stokoe/Zarcone/Churchland foursome. If you cut Brandon Graham, comics would spill out.

    And don't tell her I said it, but Emily Carroll, you guys. And her Draw This Dress partner-in-crime, Vera Brosgol.

    And Steve Wolfhard. Oh wait, this is the "Future Greats" thread? Then not Steve, because he's great right now.

    Aaaannnnd John Martz. Especially as he pertains to Team Society League, the only jam comic.

    Finally, I dunno how folks around here feel about the Flight anthologies, but Number 8, the one that's coming up, man - some of those folks know how to make the comics. DISCLAIMER i am involved with Volume 8, but this is not buzz marketing. They are, objectively, some excellent comic-makers.

    This is an exciting time to be alive.
