Has anybody else gotten into this yet? I'm interested to see what's going to happen with this.

If you are out there, I'm on under jimmyfinn at gmail, real name C. Brian Hickey--shout me a holla.

I'm not in yet, but I would like to be, if anyone has an invite to spare.

To be honest, I have very little idea of what Google+ actually is, but my love for all things Google is enough to daunt even the staunchest of Apple fan-people, so I'm sure it will be made of unicorn crap and rainbow glitter.

Nothing yet. Invites were shut down almost as quickly as they were opened, given the overwhelming friend-invites being sent out and activated. I would love one if someone suddenly has that option again, but I expect they're going to upgrade/expand the servers for it before they open invites back up again (at least on any large scale).

I'm hoping this will be better implemented than Google Wave was.

Head over to https://plus.google.com - it's open again in the UK at least.

The 'Circles' thing seems pretty brilliant, if it works the way they seem to be saying that it works, and I really like the idea of Huddle in the mobile app, and it would obviously be better if Huddle synched to the web.

But neither of those really seem like Facebook-killers, feature wise. If I were at google I'd be seriously looking at snapping up Turntable, and integrating it with Google+ and Google Music (or working on some sort of turntable-alike for Google+).

I'm on. It seems pretty wicked so far - just waiting to be allowed to send some invites again.

I just put my name on the list. I'm not convinced, but I'm also not really a fan of facebook. Maybe we should all flip the internet the bird and start using myspace again. No? Friendster? OK, I'll shut up now.

I've put my name down to be reminded when they are taking on more people - if anyone gets an invite though I'd be interested in one.

edit: Might as well give my email address: mighty (dot) emperor (at) gmail (dot) com

Makes me wonder if it'll get integrated with Google Friends Connect - they could provide a decentralised smear of social networking across the Net, rather than a more walled garden affair. I suppose beating Diaspora to the punch.

Also added myself to the list, anyone who has an invite will be rewarded with warm fuzzy feelings and maybe a viking.

Looks interesting. Its a neat move for google since Facebook has almost become this flummoxing giant. But i can't help but have a feeling that facebook will just counter google with what is missing in the site.

I'll take a seat on the bench, but im not totally swayed just yet.

HANGOUTS. I'm excited for Hangouts. Got an account, but it doesn't look like they're giving people explicit invites? Or they're doing it intermittently.

The "invite" button is gone but I got in today and added about a dozen friends.

Here's how - create a new circle (named 'invites' for simplicity) and add anyone from your contacts or add emails individually. Once you do that, create a new "status update" thing like you would on facebook and when it asks who you want to share it with choose your "invites" circle. Everyone in that circle should receive your status update in their email as well as a link. This link lets them join.

It worked for me and mine but apparently google has some secret caps so it may take a bit.

Sorry if it's not clear - I blame the beer.

@chrisanthropic - Thank you for the invite. The beer is your friend. ;)

I'm in. Not sure how I'm liking it but it looks like Facebook with fewer ads and a UI change.

That's where I'm at, but I really like the whole "circles" thing which is something facebook made way to fucking hard to do. Also, I use Android and a shit ton of G's services so it's nice to see them start to unify them.

Same backdoor invite method that chrisanthropic used seems to be working for me as well. Thanks for walking us through it with the details, Chris.

Glad it's still working. The sooner we all jump ship the sooner we can relegate facebook to the status of "family" circle. Because honestly, how many of our moms are going to switch? (thanks XKCD)

Apparently PC World posted an article on the exploit this morning. Now some of the people are getting a "We've temporarily exceeded our capacity. Please try again soon" message.

Just an FYI for those who are trying to do the backdoor invite.

@chrisanthropic - Heh. Yeah, I'm just waiting for a family member to ask me for an invite. Then again, the way it's set up, it looks like I'd be able to keep them completely secular within their own circle if I chose to add them.
