Indeed. You can actually grab one of those before you get into Google+ just using your Google profile ID, as they are the same number. So if you are waiting on an invite or it isn't accepting you there is no need to wait.
You'll also find there is a simplified URL available that bypasses the numbers but it does use your Gmail account name, which some might not be happy with. So, for example, mine is: http://plus.google.com/mighty.emperor/posts. edit: OK that is odd, as it is returning a 404 now, but I was sure it was working earlier... I'll need to investigate.
Reading around, it does appear that Google will introduce vanity URLs at some point, but they'll do for now.
Holy crap that's frustrating. I got the shares from a couple of you, but it's never open when I try. If nothing else this is a good marketing strategy. It's like trying to buy a goddam ipad at the Apple Store.
G+ just let me in, a few minutes ago, for what it's worth. Thanks Emperor. You tell me which of bribes you want (although I will be drinking your health next time I have something worth doing so with).
And that worked! I'll spend some time after work today hunting everyone down and throwing them into circles like the Kryptonian convicts at the beginning of Superman the Movie.
Hmm. On a level of personal private use, my first impressions are that Google Plus can very well kick Facebook's ass. On the professional side I'm still waiting to see how the functionality is for promoting stuff. Say, a certain movie :)
Invites have popped up again for me, but it looks like everyone has been covered so far. If you've been missed out then drop in a note, so far it seems to be going quite well, although it often takes people a few goes to get accepted. Persistence is a virtue.

Yes this is the interesting one. I have a few Gmail accounts for projects and when the Google profiles get switched to Google+ they will automatically go through. I'd assume that, rather than being strict as Facebook are, there is a... MySpace-style flexibility in that you could have an account for a band, or a company. I have just yet to see one though. I might give it a whirl.
