    Well yes, I just read about on someone's experiment with how easy it is to get an account suspended and reinstated, they used some ridiculously fake ID and it worked a treat. As I say, I am operating within their ToS, so I don't think I need to do something like this.

    Seems like the errors might have been them bringing in a new system (or the system they said they'd introduced weeks ago, except there are still no warnings - you just get suspended) as this has now popped up on my account, so it might be the start of a more forceful take on names that don't fit. We'll wait and see what happens.

    Well, I've had it with Google+

    Partly because people I know - in real life - are somewhat pseudonymous, and partly because some dick-wad at Google could think my REAL NAME is made up (Facebook still doesn't believe my own mother's real name is her real name!)

    And partly because, well, they just don't get it.

    Sorry to hear about that but I was amused by this:

    I’ve had INS agents refer to my (ex) wife as Twel-Vez, like a Mexican Elvis impersonator (BTW, El Vez is AWESOME!).


    You should seriously consider becoming Tim TW El Vez. ;)

    However, even if you turn your back on G+ be careful because getting suspended or deleting your profile can lead to other Google services not working, see what Rainyday Superstar has gone through. This isn't the Gmail and iGoogle stopping working when suspended that I encountered when first suspended (that was a bug) this is intentional and is a feature of the integration of their various services (it apparently limits what you can do on Picasa, Buzz and Reader). Even just letting your account lapse could be tricky, because someone could always report you later and get your account suspended. So don't do anything hasty, oh and, welcome to the Hotel California, I hear it's a lovely place.

    I should have a Diaspora invite winging its way to me (the proper alpha tests not whatever it was we got excited about last time), but that is a topic for a different thread.

    I still get tons of people putting me in circles even though my account has been suspended for weeks. I am guessing it's loads of spammers, so I don't really care.

    I wish they'd stop being stupid over this. If they continue to operate on the basis of 'we reserve the right to arbitrarily be dicks over people's accounts' they will not build confidence in the service. Given that they cannot possibly verify whether names are 'real', they will inevitably get it badly wrong, as in Tim's case, and penalise people who are contributing worthwhile content (The Emperor). Spammers will just pick 'average' sounding names, I can't see how it can make any difference to that.

    Shame, as I like Google+ right now, I think it's, so far, much less infantile in the way it does things than Facebook.

    I made sure not to delete my profile - I have too much enveloped with Google to delete THAT. Including an Android phone... but I am scaling my Google involvement somewhat.

    And I would never dream to tread on the toes of the one and only, El Vez.

    Maybe I'll poke around at Diaspora.

    Diaspora still looks like crap. A social network only for linux fetishists and open source zealots. For all the griping that people do about their friends not being on G+, nobody's friends are ever going to be on Diaspora. You can call yourself whatever you like on there, but again if your pod host gets bored your pod disappears and you're gone, or else you have to host your own pod on your own server, and I'm sure you want to become a sysadmin just to participate in a social network that nobody is in.

    I strongly suspect my legal name account is going to become quite the innocuous zombie, and my plausible pseudonym account is going to be where all the action is.

    Especially since losing that won't half-brick my phone or jack up my other above-ground Google bits.

    Concerns about pod hosting (and scaling?) are a worry but I'm sure if there was a respectable host around for the long term (perhaps one that already hosts this site...) it'd be fine.

    Well so far i've had no problem using my pseudonym on G+, i took the measure of writing a statement to Vic Gundotra on the site about it, never got a responce but also have had 0 hassle.

    I am openly flaunting my pseudonyms with my exposed genitalia at both Google+ and Zuckerburg's sister at Facebook, and still, I exist unbanned, unburdened and allowed to continue oozing my brain as a false prophet. I don't understand. I expected to have been made an example of many times over by now!

    Emperor - Rainy was one of my first Buzz friends/followers. She's back on G+ now, and I still can't believe I've yet to be fucked with.
