@jackcrowder- arthur adams is classic. mine changes alot too. i was gonna put my top 5 but that was too difficult @yskaya- finder looks interesting i'll have to check that out. i love gustave dore! reminds me of Albrecht Dürer (melencolia)
@yskaya- I love Matt Wagner my favorite were issue 16-19 of the old Grendel Comico series
@ imaginary- s'weird but I tend to spend more time getting inspired by film, fiction, & music than comics, my favorite artists are David Cronenberg, Dostoevsky, and Frank Zappa (+manga maniac Masamune Shirow )
I was told that I need to try and loosen up with my art so here are a couple attempts. I usually always draw in pencil first then ink with pen but now going at it with a brush right from the start kind of forces you to relinquish some control.
Here's the better half sleeping on the couch (by the way she looks much better than this)
Here's the inked version of yesterday's piece: edit: the link to a bigger version.
I had trouble figuring out three artists among those who impacted me... Without any doubt, the first one would be Yukito Kishiro. There was clearly a "before" and "after" the first time I picked up Gunnm. Two other keypoints would be Simon Bisley's run on ABC warriors and Bernie Wrightson's Frankenstein illustrations.
Picking up three artists that have been very meaningful to me in the past and current year would be Kentaro Miura, John Baizley and Neil Ford.
@hey apathy - david cronenberg is a good influence. have you seen naked lunch? @Miranda -love that pic. i really dig your work. Also picked some awesome influences. i think kentaro miura's berserk has influenced me alot
@Hey Apathy!: Thanks again! @Imaginary people: Thank you!I've been enjoying your work a lot too! And regarding Berserk: I started by borrowing them at mid-run, read them from the beginning on the net and am slowly buying them back. I developed in the process an almost spiritual relationship with the books (for the whole of it I guess; the art, the story, the characters, the world....) - I think those book have brought me as close as I ever experienced to some kind of epiphany :)
