    hahaha, high-fructose corn syrup. time for another one of my patented, smug "I'm glad I moved to Japan" moments. no HFCS, and 20 pounds fell off of me within the first month from that alone. better yet, no Equal. nothing but good old-fashioned sugar for me, baby.

    I'm going to try and limit my chocolate intake to a minimum. Chocolate is my preferred caffeine and sugar intake method, so this could be interesting. I've threatened to do it many many times, but we'll see how it goes now.

    I'm about to move house, so I'm going through one of my periodic debookings. This generally involves my spending a day or seven rationalising the argument for keeping or losing each of my books. I end up with perhaps 5 books to give to a charity shop after a week of "but you thought it was shit the first time you read it! You'll never read it again!" vs "Booooooooooooooooooooooooooook. Can't abandon books!". I'm a little over-attached, which is why they have to go.

    I gave up cola, ready meals and artificial sweeteners at new year, and it's not bothered me. I'm cutting down on my alcohol intake, as my tiresome habit of blacking out after a lot to drink is becoming very tiresome, and I realised I don't actually enjoy being drunk. I'll keep my occasional glasses of mead or wine, but drinking to get drunk is out.

    Caffeine was the last major thing I gave up on. Well, I say gave up, but I still drink decaff most days and have a can of coke about once a month. But compared to the amount I was consuming through 2004 and 2005 it's miniscule. Had some truly monumental headaches the first week, but that went away pretty quickly. My drunken hangovers last far far longer now though, used to be quite easy to slay them with redbull.

    I stopped drinking sugared beverages sometime in 2005. I stopped eating red meat around mid-2006. I went Vegetarian back in December 2006. I stopped drinking diet pop about a month ago. Can't remember the exact time of my weight turnaround (if I guessed it would have been late 2005), but I've dropped about 90lbs since then (having hit my lowest weight around early 2007).

    Not that anyone cares about this.

    Whiskey and I have decided to stop seeing each other. Beer was getting jealous.

    My liver and kidneys were getting pissed at the whole thing, so now I'm only allowed to see beer on weekends.

    But I cheat regularly. Like last night.

    I will NEVAR give up smoking. I don't think. *puff puff*

    I gave up soda about 2 or 3 years back. One day my wife said she wanted to start eating/drinking healthier and I figured I'd join in. So I gave up my 16oz soda per day habit, and I don't really miss it. Of course I cheat a little, because when we go out to eat (maybe once or twice each week) I usually end up getting a soda. Still that's one or two sodas each week instead of seven or more.

    I broke up with cable tv about 4 or 5 years back because the cable company started a policy of wanting to get paid for the service they provide and I was out of work at the time. And then we just never got it back. Every now and then I have the desire to get it again, but then I remember the times we visit my mother-in-law who has Directv and 100+ channels (including a few movie channels) and I often can't find anything worth watching anyway. So not really worth paying $50+ per month to bitch about not having anything to watch.

    I need to break-up with my ability to put off going to the gym. My dues are taking out monthly and I'm just tossing money away by not going, and I keep bitching to my wife that I'm getting fat again.

    I had to give up caffeine completely and suddenly when I figured out it was making my stomach bleed and hurt constantly. I was sick for more than a year before I figured out caffeine was the culprit. I have the most trouble with chocolate, because I keep forgetting that it has caffeine in it, and I eat way too much chocolate as it is.
