I really like what they're doing with White Collar this season. After expecting Neil to just turn in all the stolen art at the premier so they could go back to status quo and continue him on his path to redemption, having the season arc being an extended cat and mouse thing between Neil and Peter, but at the same time bringing him further into the FBI fold is working pretty nicely. And I was pleasantly surprised at the reveal of who stole the art at the end of last season (expecting it to be Neil's dead girlfriend who died off screen so probably isn't really dead).

The US version of Wilfred is hilariously weird. I haven't seen the Australian version, so I can't comment on the differences.

I'm still (almost guiltily) enjoying Covert Affairs. It's a much lighter version of Alias, without any sort of overarching mythology or any real edge, but Piper Perabo is cute as all hell, and the supporting cast is mostly very charming.

I just watched the first two episodes of Falling Skies, or at least the premiere that squished two completely separate stories into a 2-hour time block. I've got to admit to being surprised that reviews were so favorable, because there's nothing there yet. Aliens invaded, we lost, and now...? I don't get any kind of sense that there's anything else, no hint that the story is anything but one of survival. There are several hackneyed sub-plots that need to be burned off, although that's par for the course for a new series. Even ignoring those bits, I'd have to take it completely on faith that this show would be going in a direction worth watching.

I'm not sure if I'll give it more than en episode or two to sort itself out. It's possible it could pull a Fringe, but I'm not sure I'll have the patience.

Burn Notice fun show to watch, but I stopped being interested in his plight to rejoin the agency and clear his name. The show is starting to get the Gilligans Island catch 22. He seems to do a lot of good on his own, why does he still have this need to return to the agency. Hell, Jesse quit the agency because he thought he could do more with Michael's crew. Still, Ill keep watching until it's stops being fun.

True Blood another fun show that I dont take too seriously. Just too many inconsistencies with this show to fell comfortable recomending it to others. There are things I love about the show, and then there are things that annoy the hell out of me. Inconsistent characterization, vampires dying easily because they conveniently forget to use their powers to progress the plot. It has the tone of a bad 1980's B horror movie. Vampires, Werewolves, random violence and even more random T&A, which I cant not love. Plus, I keep hoping Rutina Wesley will finally stop being shy about showing us her chesticles, especially now that she's so fit.

Alphas. Very impressed with the pilot. Overall, it has a stale concept at this point, of a group of ordinary people with powers, but they give it a new twist by making more of a police procedural. That they use their unique powers specifically to find clues and solve unusual cases.

But what really impressed me was the characterization. All the characters were well rounded and unique, they seemed like real people to me, the way they interacted with each other and others, and the dialogue was excellent. I think the quality of the writing is what impressed me the most.

I hope this wasn't just the pilot.

I finally got around to watching the season premiere, and holy crap, what a brutal, beautiful show. It took me months to work through last season's episodes, because I didn't want to not have any to look forward to.

"Pregnant" had a scene where Louie goes about preparing a near-gourmet meal for his kids after the younger daughter complains about the food they get during their visits. The wordless intensity of his kitchen work was . . . beautiful. In a standard "dumb dad" sitcom he'd brag about fixing dinner and screw it up. Instead, we see his honest efforts in intimate close-ups . . . and then he has to deal with the younger daughter whining about not getting a slice of mango.

Well, Men of a Certain Age has been can cancelled. I dont think you should worry, in my opinion, the first 2 episodes of Alpha are better then any episode from Heroes.

Louie. Excellent comedy show. My favorite this season is Moving, when he tries to find a better place to live for him and his children. It was just a perfect blend of smarmy, sharp, biting humor mixed in with sentimentality and earnestness.

Anyway, mostly I think I like the show because it was a primetime network about people with powers. It was like comic books were finally getting respect, but at the same time, even from the first episode. It looked to me like a lot of talented writers who didn't really understand the genre they were basing the show about. The show lacked vision/focus and I don't think they ever got it even through what 3? 4 seasons?

Alphas has the focus, in my opinion, and it the quality is evident. Which is a bold thing to say with just 2 episodes, I know. Will be keeping an eye out.

While the premiere was alright, the latest episode of Thundercats was possibly one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. Here is a conversation I had with a friend earlier, describing how ridiculous it is:

DJ: The new Thundercats cartoon is the most ridiculous thing ever
Friend: Well, it's not like the old one wasn't completley insane on its own merits.
DJ: Well the pilot was like a completely different take on it and was pretty alright, then the second episode was as batshit as anything possibly could be
-Basically, they go to a desert, but the sea is for some reason a raging ocean made of sand
-Which just looks like a sea of piss
-And they find some food sitting around on top of the sea of piss, so they all go to eat it
Friend: Is it a trap?
DJ: Yes. It is a trap made by fish people, who have had their water stolen by a giant kraken tentacle monster
-So they decide they'll just eat the Thundercats because they ruined their trap, but then the monster attacks and Liono saves the day
-Then he asks the captain for advice on leading, who tells him not to listen to anyone because they're all a bunch of ingrates, so Liono charges their floating sand boat into a storm of giant rocks after the kraken
-Which is my favourite part, because to prevent the rocks from hitting the boat, Liono stands on the mast and starts slashing them with his sword
Friend: Surely a nipponese katana
DJ: Then the monster sinks the ship and everyone falls overboard and the captain says fuck'em and dives into the kraken's mouth like a madman, but Liono realizes he has been wrong and goes to save the crew
-His plan to save the crew is just standing on a piece of a ship that's floating on the sand ocean, waving to everyone to come over, then shooting the upturned head of the boat with a harpoon and pulling it to them
-Not them to the boat, mind you
-The boat to them
-And then the kraken eats Liono but he cuts open it's belly, thus restoring water to the world
Friend: So it didn't digest the water
-It was just sort of a dick
DJ:And then he decides for no reason that he refuses to babysit the wily kittens, but that they don't need it because they have proven themselves in battle
-Even though they did literally nothing the whole episode
-the end

 @DJ Stawes

I think that the idea of the ocean of sand it's been caused by the creature in the same way a sandworm absorbs moisture in Dune. The sea may not even be sand, it's just not water because of the creature's taint.

I'll give you the food staying on top of the sea. However having the Thundercats go after the food makes sense because their surrounded by a desert, with supplies running out. So of course they would go after the food, it's sustenance smack dab in the middle of the desert. The worry about whether or not it's a trap is secondary.

The food operates like that glowy fish that exists close to the bottom of the ocean, the food lures pray like the thundercats to be eaten by the crew as they search for the monster. They didn't interrupt the trap, the trap was intended for them.

Th captain represents what Liono could become if he allows rage and vengence overcome the Thundercat's quest to find the Book of Omens. Thats why they warm up to each other, they see a mirror of the other in the other cat and or fish person. it's also why Liono listens to the Captain so intently when he first met him.

The sword cutting thing is just a anime trope, what you gonna do?

I'll give you the boat thing as well.

However, with the restoring water thing, well it's an alien creature that somehow transforms the sea that it's into sand or whatever the ocean was. You have to figure you really have no idea how it processes the water or how long it processes the water. Hell, it might be mystical in origin, in which case it warps the basic fundamental laws of the thundercat universe anyway so whatever.

And the last bit, well they showed they could take care of themselves by not getting eaten by fish people.

Still, the people who have been trying to adapt Fables to TV must be spittin', since it features starring roles for Snow White, Prince Charming and Gepetto amongst others.

And Robert Carlyle said hello in a twenty-second video intro, as they're filming the series at the moment.
