/Outcasts/ definitely looking up. Now my only worry is that it will develop into another /Earth 2/, get interesting, then get cancelled before the Big Reveal about What Is Happening On the Island Planet.

Falling Skies isn't top-notch SF or top-notch TeeVee, but the fact that it is, um, second-notch of each makes it quite enjoyable. The nature of the alien invasion looks to be much more complex and intriguing than first suggested.

I'm rather enjoying Jon Benjamin Has a Van. It's really a perfect riff of on-the-street talk shows or whatever that genre is called.

While the premiere was alright, the latest episode of Thundercats was possibly one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. Here is a conversation I had with a friend earlier, describing how ridiculous it is:

DJ: The new Thundercats cartoon is the most ridiculous thing ever
Friend: Well, it's not like the old one wasn't completley insane on its own merits.
DJ: Well the pilot was like a completely different take on it and was pretty alright, then the second episode was as batshit as anything possibly could be
-Basically, they go to a desert, but the sea is for some reason a raging ocean made of sand
-Which just looks like a sea of piss
-And they find some food sitting around on top of the sea of piss, so they all go to eat it
    Friend: Is it a trap?
DJ: Yes. It is a trap made by fish people, who have had their water stolen by a giant kraken tentacle monster
-So they decide they'll just eat the Thundercats because they ruined their trap, but then the monster attacks and Liono saves the day
-Then he asks the captain for advice on leading, who tells him not to listen to anyone because they're all a bunch of ingrates, so Liono charges their floating sand boat into a storm of giant rocks after the kraken
-Which is my favourite part, because to prevent the rocks from hitting the boat, Liono stands on the mast and starts slashing them with his sword
    Friend: Surely a nipponese katana
DJ: Then the monster sinks the ship and everyone falls overboard and the captain says fuck'em and dives into the kraken's mouth like a madman, but Liono realizes he has been wrong and goes to save the crew
-His plan to save the crew is just standing on a piece of a ship that's floating on the sand ocean, waving to everyone to come over, then shooting the upturned head of the boat with a harpoon and pulling it to them
-Not them to the boat, mind you
    -The boat to them
-And then the kraken eats Liono but he cuts open it's belly, thus restoring water to the world
Friend: So it didn't digest the water
-It was just sort of a dick
DJ:And then he decides for no reason that he refuses to babysit the wily kittens, but that they don't need it because they have proven themselves in battle
-Even though they did literally nothing the whole episode
    -the end

I knew they'd been renewed but TV Execs have been known to do... questionable things. More hoping out loud really.

I switched back and forth between Thundercats and Avengers before deciding to just stick with Avengers. Loki managed to bring some real menace to the table despite having some epically hilarious headgear.

I rebuilt my DVR today, a home-brew Linux PC based thing.

I noticed that the database file, which stores schedules and channel information and such, was gigantic, over a hundred megabytes.

I poked around, and found that the "previously recorded" list was . . . . really, really long. There were records dating back to 2007, when I first built a DVR. These weren't recorded episodes of things, just the time and date and episode details.

Cleaning it out was quite an experience. There were entire seasons of shows I watched and followed and in some cases enjoyed that I had a real hard time remembering. Cop shows, SF shows, medical shows.

    It's kind of sobering.

    @DJ Stawes

I think that the idea of the ocean of sand it's been caused by the creature in the same way a sandworm absorbs moisture in Dune. The sea may not even be sand, it's just not water because of the creature's taint.

I'll give you the food staying on top of the sea. However having the Thundercats go after the food makes sense because their surrounded by a desert, with supplies running out. So of course they would go after the food, it's sustenance smack dab in the middle of the desert. The worry about whether or not it's a trap is secondary.

The food operates like that glowy fish that exists close to the bottom of the ocean, the food lures pray like the thundercats to be eaten by the crew as they search for the monster. They didn't interrupt the trap, the trap was intended for them.

Th captain represents what Liono could become if he allows rage and vengence overcome the Thundercat's quest to find the Book of Omens. Thats why they warm up to each other, they see a mirror of the other in the other cat and or fish person. it's also why Liono listens to the Captain so intently when he first met him.

The sword cutting thing is just a anime trope, what you gonna do?

I'll give you the boat thing as well.

However, with the restoring water thing, well it's an alien creature that somehow transforms the sea that it's into sand or whatever the ocean was. You have to figure you really have no idea how it processes the water or how long it processes the water. Hell, it might be mystical in origin, in which case it warps the basic fundamental laws of the thundercat universe anyway so whatever.

And the last bit, well they showed they could take care of themselves by not getting eaten by fish people.

Leverage was pretty good tonight, especially Timothy Hutton.

"God killed you. I just made sure it took."

Still working through Season 4 of Leverage and the final season of SGU. Also started watching Alphas and wasn't massively impressed; It was more a case of, oh look, there's Greg Grunberg's character... and there's Ali Larter... etc. etc. I'm going to give it a chance, but the bad comedy mid-90's cop-show costumes of the villain made it very hard to take the show as seriously as it obviously wants to be taken.

/Leverage/ is getting good again. It had seemed kind of uninspired in Season 3, but the last few episodes were crackling, which is pretty much what you want in a caper show.

And I watched three episodes of /Alphas/, and the scripting and characters have gotten a bit tighter, and the team is starting to gel. Now I'm just waiting for the inevitable Big Mystery to develop. But as a sort of bargain-basement X-Men, it isn't horrible.

Regarding Alphas I like that the Gary character isn't "TV-autistic" but more realistically autistic. Somebody did their homework on autism with that character and it shows.

Not read everyones comments but anyone enjoying Breaking Bad? I have not seen last two episodes and couple of people I got into slagged it a bit. Personally season 3 was one of the best things ive seen. I loved the start of new season..that show has been in my life over past few years like a good mate.I

I'm liking Breaking Bad this year. They're obviously moving into the endgame now, setting Walt up against the crime boss on one hand and the DEA on the other.
