@Magnus , why is that so damn sexy to me?
  2.  (9993.2)
It's meant to be. :) Aerial is all about the sex. Throw in a heap of danger and it just makes it awesome. She got arrested after that little stunt.

Just watched this, and would like to proliferate widely:

@InvincibleM. I find it odd that they use the same picture (the one with the thumb through the four fingers, like you're saying "T" in ASL) in both the "I've Got Your Nose" and "Fisting" entiries.

Miss USA: Should evolution be taught in schools?
  6.  (9993.10)
I think the real question is "Should Warren Ellis be taught in schools?"
  7.  (9993.11)
@yaboo that....fucking...video.... seriously. I saw it a few weeks ago and just, wow. 15 minutes of me just shaking my head.
  8.  (9993.12)
@King Happybomb: Or in other words, "should people in the public school system have the right to get caned right in the face?"
    My answer is yes.

@RandomEntity: The few Miss [Location] contestants I've seen didn't seem to be bred for intelligence.

I feel a little bad posting that vid up with the obvious implied "let us laugh at the women made of cosmetics and educational failure" undertone ... but the ignorance on display was impressive.

Is there a requirement that all Miss America entrants be incredibly vapid, or have I just forgotten what it's like to be 21?

I really couldn't say. Aside from the above clip and that video from 2007, I don't think I've ever watched footage from a beauty pageant for more than twenty seconds. Perhaps these are just anomalies from an otherwise dignified and noble celebration of the female form.

Sorry for OT but I was wondering if you had any info on Victorian-era occult/mysticism source material?

Something a little less light to read for the day.

    The rape of men

Sexual violence is one of the most horrific weapons of war, an instrument of terror used against women. Yet huge numbers of men are also victims. In this harrowing report, Will Storr travels to Uganda to meet traumatised survivors, and reveals how male rape is endemic in many of the world's conflicts

"Laying the pus-covered pad on the desk in front of him, he gave up his secret. During his escape from the civil war in neighbouring Congo, he had been separated from his wife and taken by rebels. His captors raped him, three times a day, every day for three years. And he wasn't the only one. He watched as man after man was taken and raped. The wounds of one were so grievous that he died in the cell in front of him."
    [...]
"I know for a fact that the people behind the report insisted the definition of rape be restricted to women," he says, adding that one of the RLP's donors, Dutch Oxfam, refused to provide any more funding unless he'd promise that 70% of his client base was female. He also recalls a man whose case was "particularly bad" and was referred to the UN's refugee agency, the UNHCR. "They told him: 'We have a programme for vulnerable women, but not men.'"

Let's not judge everyone in that video on the same merits - there's at least three or four contestants who, while not offending their demographic, manages to say pretty clear that evolution should be taught in school on the ground of it actually be, you know, scientific and truthful.

That Miss World video made me angry, at first, but then it just made me want to sit them all down and make them watch this:

"If you can't find out if something is true or it isn't then you should suspend judgement."
